From Page One) you, too.” Earlier in the meeting, Wilkerson testified, he told Hattman that Rutledge said the engineer had called him to demand money — $2(19 at first and later $1,900. “I told him it looked to me like the demand constituted blackmail and asked Hattman if he didn't think he would get into trouble,” Wilkerson said. "Hattman told me he didn't think so." « Hattman then said, according to Wilkerson that if "it was so important to get rid of him” he would go to California and get a job in an aircraft plant if the Rutledges would make up his loss in wages. Hattman ended the meeting by getting into his car and slamming the door, the detective said. Rutledge is on trial for the fatal stabbing of Hattman in a Cedar Rapids hotel room last Dec. 14. The prosecution contends he slew the engineer to avenge his wife's Seduction in their St. Louis apartment. PICKETS KEEP' (Cont. The effects of the Bendix strike, felt almost immediately in the automotive industry because stocks of Bendix-made parts were depleted by an eight-day wildcat walkout earlier in April, spread to the aviation industry yesterday. Wrecks To Be Labeled Westover Field. Mass. (UP) — The Air Force has come up with an idea to prevent old plane wrecks from being identified falsely as the wreckage of missing aircraft being searched for from the air. Henceforth, the Air Force said, the wreckage will be painted a bright "international yellow,” easily identifiable from the air. The longest march made by an infantry unit was completed in 1847, when the Mormon Battalion reached the Pacific ‘coast from Council Bluffs, lowa, a march of 1,870 miles.
