New Bantam Books DANGER TRAIL by Theodore Pratt; MY SISTER, MY BRIDE by Merrian Modell; ILLUSION by Allene Corliss; ROAD SHOW by Eric Hatch; MANY A MONSTER by Robert Finnegan; CLOWNING THROUGH BASEBALL by Al Schacht; HELL OR HIGH WATER by Dick Pearce; THE WILD BUNCH by Ernest Haycox. BOOK NOTES ERNEST HAYCOX, author of THE WILD BUNCH, a Bantam Book, admits that his habit of rewriting everything at least once’ has brought him to the point where he no longer turns out a satisfactory note to the grocer on the first try. In a recent attempt he wrote "Enclosed please find check.” No satisfied with this he tore it up and wrote, "Please find check enclos ed.” After several other versions had been tried and found wanting! he finally settled on, “Please find enclosed check.” JAMES MARESCA, the New Yord City cab driver who scored a hit with his first book, “My Flag Is Down,” is ready with a sequel titled, "My Trusty Pen.” He describes it as a humorous, philosophical observation of life in Manhattan's traffic jungle. “The Barefoot Mailman," by Theodore Pratt, is a story of Florida's early days of settlement, has become one of the state's most' popular souvenir items with the tourist trade.- Native Floridians, who prefer its colorful narrative history to many other popular books about the Florida scene, suggest it to outlanders as the most descriptive of their state. This month the book will reach close to half a million more readers when Bantam Books publishes it in a 25 cent edition titled, “Danger Trial.”
