D., south- ; west of Norfolk, Neb. i The snow, mixed with rain, was | blown by 30-mile-an-hour north winds. * A storm warning for much of the j Great Lakes area was issued by the | U. S. weather bureau, as it forecast ' 40 to 50-mile-an-hour winds over ! the south portion of Lake Michigan , tonight. Storm conditions also exist over ' Lakes Superior and Huron, a weather forecaster said. | Minneapolis had four inches of ! snow within three hours early to- ; day, with snow extending in a 70I mile wide belt from southeastern ■South Dakota to Duluth, Minn. Depths ranged from two to four inches over the area. Northern Wisconsin also report’ed wind-driven snow, sleet and
■ freezing rain. The snow was expects cd to continue today and tonight, I temporarily ending the area's taste » of spring weather. I Michigan was expected to get its i share of the winter, weather tonight - with two to four inches of snow • forecast for the northern tip of lower Michigan and two to five inches i in the upper peninsula. i Strong northerly winds were forecast for the entire area. > * - HEALTH AGENCY (Cont. From Pave One) an emergency appropriation of $595,890,000 for veterans unemployment compensation and education and training benefits. Recess—Both house and senate planned to shut up shop tonight for an Easter holiday. The house ■ expects to quit for 10 days, the senate just until Monday. President Truman has asked the lawmakers to boost taxes by $4,000,000,000 a year to avoid a prospective deficit of about $850,000,000 in fiscal 1950 and to make a substantial payment on the national debt. The comments of Doughton were made as the house passed and sent to the senate a bill to provide the armed forces with roughly $16,000,000,000 to spend in the next fiscal year. This is about $630,000,000 above Mr. Truman's budget estimates. • Doughton expressed hope that the American expenditures for foreign aid project will taper off in the next few years and that new domestic spending programs will be held off until then. | No guessing with a “Hold cold control" with a Westing--house Refrigerator.—Arnold i & Klenk, Inc. Warns On Dumping Trash On Highways Anyone throwing tin cans or other trash along the highways will face immediate arrest, sheriff Herman Bowman warned today. He requests that any witness to such an act report the auto license of the guilty person to the sheriff's office. “Disposing of trash along the highways is a violation of state law," the sheriff said. A dumping ground, located across the river on . Monroe street, is provided by the [ city for trash disposal. Besides marring the beauty of the landscape and creating hazards for motorists, trash along the I highways ruins grass cutting math- : inery. ;
