Tomato Growers To Hold School Tuesday Roscoe Fraser, extension specialist, Purdue, will discuss the 1949 prospects for tomato growers at a growers’ school Tuesday evening at the Bluffton community building. He will also tell about the latest experimental work done at the University on cultural practices, including disease and insect control. The tomato canning factories having growers in Wells county are cooperating in arrangements for the school, and will provide refreshments. All who are interested in tomato growing are urged to attend. SEEK TO TRIM (Cont. From Page One) meet the same fate. Efforts to trim the funds for European recovery failed in the senate. That body passed its own version of the foreign aid bill late Friday after 13 days of debate. The senate bill carried the full authorization requested by the administration — $5,580,000,000 — to cover recovery spending for 15 months in 16 western European nations and non-communist Germany. STRIKE SUSPENDS (Cont. From Page One) ciliation service, said both sides made suggestions for settlement “but the concessions were not sufficient for complete agreement.” A good guess as to the stumbling block, he said, is wages. No additional meetings were planned. The conciliation service planned to keep in touch with the situation. Members of the stereotypers union (AFL) and the printing pressmen's union (AFL) called their own meeting at a local hotel to discuss the situation. The pressmen last week gave Washington a preview of a newspaperless city. They struck for about 25 hours, preventing publicaition on all four popers. After the ail night sessions, George T. Walker, president of local No. 6 of the pressmen's union, said the “strike is on."

Mr. & Mrs. Russell Stump Trade in a Good Town — Decatur FIVE FORMER (Cont. From Page One) this case of the 21 defendants in the 13th and last of the big war crimes trials aimed at fixing guilt for the Nazi policies of invasion and extermination. Weizsaecker, who was defended by Warren Magee of Washington. D. C., maintained that he worked only for peace and stayed on with the Hitler government merely to try to brake its plans. The Court held that Weizsaecker, who also served as a state secretary in the foreign office, was “not merely a bystander, but acted affirmatively" in the German conquest of Czechoslovakia. It said he “himself conducted the diplomatic negotiations, both with the victim (Czechoslovakia) and with the interested power (Nazi Germany), doing this with full knowledge of the facts."
