Some other district leaders looked for a prompt return to work on Monday—unless Lewis issues new orders in the meantime. I think it’s doubtful if we'll I go back Monday.” “We’re backing John L. 100 per- : cent,” remarked another miner., “We took a two-week vacation and j we don’t care if it takes another six months." President Truman had submitted Boyd’s nomination to the senate three times since May, 1947. Boyd has served without pay since Dec. 31, 1947: According to one administration spokesman in the senate, an attempt will be made to provide his SIO,OOO salary for 1948 by special legislation. The Republican-controlled senate in the SOth congress failed to act, primarily because of the opposition of Sen. Eugene I). Millikin, RColo- but the President gave Boyd j a recess appointment. He took office in August, 1947. and was paid for five months. Then his salary was stopped under a general law. The appearance of the first witness came just nine-and-half weeks after the trial opened. The actual taking of testimony was delayed by lengthy arguments over the federal district court jury system and over selection of the jury. Come in and see "The Car Designed With YOU in Mind”
It’s brand-new ... so new that there aren't many on the streets yet. But already it's a tremendous success. And it’s easy enough to see why. Everybody wants a smart, good-looking modern car. But most of us don't want to pay a penalty for being modern. We want more r00m... more comfort ... more visibilit y... not less. That's where De Soto scores. It’s got those long, low lines. But you don't have to wriggle into it. It has big wide doors. Plenty of headroom, too. The roof won’t scrape your hat, no matter where you sit. It’s roomier than ever.

I In this connection he has been attacked as unfit for access to a- ' tomic secrets because of his connection with the southern conference for human welfare, a group named as subversive by congressional investigators. ( Rep. F. Edward Hebert. D., Da - carried those charges against Graham to the floor of congress, where he also urged that Graham be dismissed as president of the university here, a post he has held since 1930. Radio commentator Fulton Lewis. Jr., charged that the atomic energy commission cleared Graham for atomic secrets despite objections of advisors on loyalty matters. Graham replied that he knew nothing of the objections and said ‘he has "always been opposed to communism and all totalitarian I governments."
