additional time would be so long i that the senate would never get the bill. "Correct,” Van Ness replied. The delegation to Schricker's office included people from Kokomo, Lafayette, Anderson, Frankfort, Marion, Peru, Wabash and Huntington. Schricker didn't hedge in meeting the issue. "i make no bones about it,” he said. “1 suggested the privilege tax. The cost of government can't be ignored. We have to meet it. "There are injustices in all ! forms of taxation. "The surtax is purely a bonus matter. It can be collected without any additional cost to the state. “We’ve got 70 salary bills in the legislature, the budget is getting bigger all the time, and our institutional problem is Immense. "Clearly it looks like Indiana is going into the red. I’m not going to sit here and wateh the state go broke.” . INSTALLMENT tCont. From Page One) said the easing of credit curbs is “a clear illustration of the wise exercise of government controls.” Rep. Jesse P. Wolcott, R., Mich., said “the whole thing (installment buying controls) should be abandoned.” He said the controls are discriminatory and serve "no useful purpose at the present time.” Clean Clothespins Keep clothespins in a clean place and wash them occasionally. Evansville Man Is Acquitted By Jury Fpund Not Guilty In Mississippi Killing Meridian, Miss., March 3 - (UP) — Charles Voyles, Evansville, Ind., lumber dealer, today jas free of manslaughter charges in the slaying of a Mississippi constable last August. The jury remained out for 29 minutes before bringing in a “not guilty” verdict. The decision was met with cheers in the crowded courtroom, and Voyles said, “thank God for Mississippi people.” The Indiana man was indicted in the death of Wilson Boone just two weeks ago. A preliminary hearing brought out evidence that he had paid Boone's widow $3,000 shortly after the slaying in return for an agreement not to prosecute. Later, Mrs. Boone said, she found that she needed more money because of “a recent discovery of pregnancy.” Voyles was indicted shortly thereafter. Evidence at the trial brought out that Boone was slain in a nightclub brawl. Voyles testified that he shot Boone because the constable attack ed Voyles' son, Robert, 17. Witnesses said Boone was intox icated at the time of the brawl and tried to have Voyles and his son thrown out of the nightclub. When Voyles was indicted,, district attorney Jack 'Lobrano withdrew from the case because, he said, a trial would be an “injustice.” The court had to appoint a special attorney to prosecute the case.
