President Queried On Slap Al Pearson Mirthful Questions Asked By Newsmen Washington, Feb. 24 — (UP) — President Truman told his news conference today that columnist Drew Pearson and President Peron of Argentipa had probably nominated themselves for the 194* Nobel peace prize. Word came from Oslo, Norway, last night that President and Mrs. Peron, Pearson and Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt were among 23 nominees for the prize. Elmer Davis, American Broadcasting Co. commentator who identified himself to the president today as a colleague of Pearson, asked if by any chance had this government nominated Peron and Pearson.
The president said he could say no categorically. Then as an afterthought, he said they probably nominated themselves. .Mr. Truman came in for some mirthful questioning about his use of the term “5.0.8.” in a slap at Pearson Tuesday night. Mr. Truman at that time defended Maj.Gen. Harry H. Vaughan, his military aide, for accepting an Argentine medal. Pearson had attacked Vaughan for taking the medal. The president, questioned about what had happened since he had used the strong language, said the reaction had been very satisfactory to him. The Washington Star said editorially yesterday that Mr. Truman must have been referring to the “senate office building." A reporter told the president today that the writer of this editorial obviously was confused. Mr. Truman said he feared the writer would have to remain confused. At the opening of his conference the president was shown today's first edition of the Washington Daily News, the front page of which was devoted entirely to a cartoon by Harold Talburt showing Mr. Truman biting a doe. When the paper was shoved across the desk to the president, he broke out laughing and observ-

Man Charged With Disorderly Conduct Aiudry Alberson, 35, of Petroleum, was arrested Wednesday night on a disorderly conduct charge, the outcome of a fracas in a Geneva tavern. Alberson was picked up by Wells county authorities and locked up overnight in the Adams county jail. Before Adams circuit court Judge Myles F. Parrish this morning Alberson pleaded not guilty to the charge. He iwas released on S2OO bond, pending a trial. Willard Lawrence, a Geneva bartender, alleged that Alberson heaved a bar stool at him Monday night. ed that he apparently was getting in a good, strong bite. The front page of the news carried a one-word caption over the cartoon—‘News.” x Vaughan got another decoration last night. This one was from Mexico, and Vaughan was pretty sure it wouldn’t stir up a ruckus. Vaughan was honored by the Mexican government at a ceremony late yesterday for his work in promoting inter-American understanding. Mexican Ambassador. Rafael De La Colina pinned the decoration of military merit first class on the president’s military aide. < NO ll( E OF FINAL SETTLEMENT OF ESTATE NO. 4445 Notice is hereby given to the creditors, heirs and legatees of Elmer L.
