Mishawaka, one of the state’s top teams this season with a 15-5 record. was stopped .by South Bend Central's high-flying Bears in the headline tussle of the opening session of the five-day sectional eliminations. The score was 42 to 41. Last night's firing was the first in Hoosierland's ibiggest annual sports show, a show which runs for four weeks and draws hundreds of thousands of spectators. Among the first-night losers were Hammond Tech, Gary Emerson, Gary Tolleston, South Bend Catholic and East Chicago Washington. Among the winners were Gary Mann, Gary Wirt, Valparaiso, Hammond Clark anil Hammond Noll. Hammond Tech’s elimination spelled disaster for a former IHSAA champion. Tech won the big meet in 1940.
