Illini Battle Ohio State On Saturday Night Chicago. Feb. 11—(VP)— The two fastest basketball teams in the Rig Nine, Illinois and Ohio State, clash at Champaign tomorrow in probably the toughest test left this year for the first place Illini. Should the Buckeyes win. Illinois would drop into a nominal tie with both Minnesota and Michigan for the league lead, assuming that both the Gophers and Wolverines can come up with weekend wins. Each of the three teams then would have lost two games and while each has played a different number of contests, it would be feasible for two of them to come down to the wire in a championship tie. Illinois was a four-point favorite to defeat the Buckeyes, but Ohio State ranked high as a possible upsetter to confuse the conference standings. Their contest was a standout headliner for a four game Big Nine slate. Other league contests were Michigan at Indiana, lowa at Minnesota and Wisconsin versus Northwestern in the Chicago Stadium. Purdue plays a nonconference team, Michigan State at East Lansing. • The high-scoring Illinois, boasting a 68.3 point per game average for the entire season, will count on every member of the squad hitting the bucket regularly to down Ohio State. x Only one Illinois player. Dwight Eddleman. has hit 20 points in a league game this year, and one other, Bill Erickson, ranks in the first 10 scorers of the conference. But every member of the Illini squad has showed scoring strength and it will have to be that way to win Saturday. Ohio State, on the other hand, ranks second to Illinois in Big Nine average scoring per game, and the Buckeyes rely on three stellar point makers to show the way. Center Bob Raidiger, certainly one of the best pivot men in the league, holds first place in the conference scoring race with 126 points. To support him the Buckeyes have forward Dick Schnittker in seventh place with 95 points and the second-best point per game average in the circuit, and forward Bob Donham. tied for 10th with 74 points. Schnittker. who missed two games because of illness, probably would be right up on a par with Raidiger had he played in every Buckeye contest. The Buckeyes have a better shooting record than Illinois and have hit on .322 percent of their field goal attempts in league play. The Illini mark is .277. In other games Michigan was a three point underdog to the Hoosiers. while Minnesota was rated 18 better than lowa. The Wiscon-sin-Northwestern scrap was even. Trade in a Good Town — Decatur
