Winter Meeting Os Decatur Zone Held Lutheran Churches Hold Zone Meeting The annual winter meeting of the Lutheran churches of the Decatur zone with representatives present from each of the ten congregations in circuit A was held Sunday afternoon at St. John's Lutheran church at Bingen. Opening devotions were conducted by the host pastor, the Rev. Martin Behling. The meeting was presided over by its retiring chairman, John Bleeke of Immanuel church, route 5, Decatur. Edgar Nordbrock, principal of Emmanuel Lutheran school at Soest, read an essay on the topic, "The congregation and the Pastor.” The Rev. E. T. Every congregation had exceeded its quota for contributions to the church at large; and the average contribution per communicant throughout this area was considerably greater than in 1947. Rev. Schmidtke explained that 1949 budget figures were about 11 percent higher than last year, but urged an optimistic viewpoint toward attaining them. The Rev. W. H. Bouman of Emmanuel. Soest, explained plans of the newly organized Lutheran publicity , bureau of Fort Wayne, which will also handle public relations for , this area. Paid newspaper and , radio adver ising supported by the , congregations on an assessment , per communicant membership is planned. Officers elected at the meeting include Louis A. Jacobs, chairman, Hugo Boerger of St. Peter's, vicechairman, and Oscar Lankenau of Zion, Decatur, secretary. This year's program committee consists of Bernard Schultz of Immanuel. Decatur. Theo Grotran of St. Peter’s, Arthur Schroeder of St. John's, Bingen, and Harold Mel- . cher, Flatrock.
