All main Hoosier rivers are falling now, Miller said, but all will > remain above flood stage for sev- ! eral days. He said the cold wea- > ther froze up the runoff, and be--1 cause of it, river stages started • falling a little sooner than expect- !. ed. The cold weather “should hang on for at least three or tour days,” Miller said, with temperatures generally remaining well below freezt ing, especially at night. t This January was one of the rain--1 est ever experienced, with 7.13 • inches at Indianapolis tpyical of t the state, Miller said. The Janr nary average is 3.97 inches, butj ’ the rainiest January in history was in 1890, when the heavens opened; I to pour 10.2 inches on Indiana- > polis. Temperatures stayed below : freezing, but above zero this morning, with the state’s low of two] ’■ degrees being reported at South I ’ Bend, and a high of 22 at Evans-' ! ville, where three inches of snow; • fell. There were two inches at! I Terre Haute and Fort Wayne and! . more than an inch at both Indiana ) 1 polis and South Bend. Truck Association . Hits Restrictions The Indiana motor truck associ iation today cited the state’s truck - restrictions as -barriers to can- ■ merce which place a burden on bus- , Iness and the ultimate consumer.) . In a report released today, the > ( association stated that Indiana's j limitations on truck transport are ! greater than in any other state. 1 The survey denied that overloaded trucks cause damage to highways, contending that alternate freezing md thawing would crack the roads I even with out traffic. The survey disclosed that 1,580 or 49 percent of all Hoosier coramunities depend entirely on motor rucks for daily necessities. It said the number of trucks in Indiana in 1947 was 186,456, of which 13,960 were truck-tractors. Trndr in n Good Town — '/rrntiir j
