MEETING OF SUNNY CIRCLE CLUB HELD The meeting of the Sunny Circle Home Economics club of Preble township was held at the home of Mrs. Irvin Buuck recently, with Mrs. Edgar Reiffsteck assisting. Following the pot-luck supper at I seven o'clock, the meeting, coni ducted by Mrs. Arthur Koeneman. was opened with the song cf the month "Auld Lang Syne." The safei ty lesson was given in the form of | a playlet by Mrs. Robert Beery, I Mrs. Hildebrand. Mrs. Conrad and Mrs Schueler. Mrs. Koeneman 1 ! then gave a report of the recent ! council meeting, followed by an adi dress by the county health nurse, Miss Jean Shockley, on home nursing and first aid. Roll call was answered with a New Years resolution. Hostesses for the February 22 meeting will be Mrs. Koeneman and I Mrs. Schmiedtke. PSI IOTA XI HAS MID-YEAR LUNCHEON Alpha Kappa chapter of Franklin was hostess to members of grand council of Psi lota Xi sorority and delegates from the seventy-four •hapters at the mid-year luncheon in Indianapolis Saturday. Mrs. Robert Macklin and Miss Betty I Melchi. delegates, and Miss Mary Alice Beineke and Mrs. Paul Hani cher. <>f the local chapter, attended ' the meeting. Before the luncheon, an informal reception was held in tbe toy- ! <>r of the ball room in the Columbia j club. Cultural and charitable enterprises carried out by Psi lota Xi in- : i hide support of the Indianapolis symphony, the Hoosier Art Salon, speech and hearing clinics at Indiana university and Ball State Teachers' college, and scholarships i:t teacher training work at Indiana state feathers’ college at Terre ! Haute and al Ohio State university. ; Columbus, O. An intesive ten-year interest in therapeutics for children with speech and hearing defects has resulted in the establishment of a thirteen thousand dollar fund for a traveling clinic over the state. In the first three years, more than six thousand children took the test for speech ami one hundred twenty i thousand for hearing defeacts. During this time the sorority also sponsored lectures by clinicians to acquaint persons with the work of the

, clinic, its aims and its functions. For the past five years, an annual contribution of two thousand dollars to tlie Indiana university speech and hearing clinic, under the direction of Dr. Robert W. Mil-: iasen. helped pay tuition, board and room for twenty seven children during an eight-weeks session. The local chapter assisted in I sending a Lincoln school student to Ball State during last summer for treatment of a speech and hearing defect. » In 194(1 Psi lota Xi set tin scholarships sor the training of teachers in speech and hearing work at Indiana state teachers' college, and five ipupils receive one hundred dollars a year to aid in their edit-; cation for this specialized type of work. To date, approximately nine thousand dollars has been raised for the Psi lota Xi symphony endowment fund which supports Indiana symphonies. At the Hoosier art salon the sorority purchases three pictures each lot these are distributed to chapters in the northern, central and southern provinces. Also the organization buys five patron 'membership at ten dollars each for the grand president, the grand secretary and three province chairmen. The Ever Ready class will meet at seven thirty o'clock Thursday i evening at the home of Mrs. Dan Tyndall. Mrs. W. Guy Brown will be chairman, assisted by Mrs. Harve Baker. Mrs. N. A. Bixler and Mrs. Asa Pollock. The Psi lota Xi sorority business meeting will be held at the Elks home Wednesday evening at seven fifteen prompt. The meeting was originally scheduled for eight; o'clock 'but was changed to allow members to attend the fashion show. All members are urged to attend. The Ladies Aid society of the Union Chapel church will have an all day meeting Thursday at the church. A pot-luck dinner will be served at the noon hour, following the im tubers will sew on quilts. All ladies of the church are invited to attend. A combined meeting of the Missionary society and Ladies Aid of the Bethany Evangelical United Brethnn church will be held at the < hurch Thursday afternoon at two o'clock. Mrs. Eugene Runyon of the Missionary society and Mrs. Bertha Finith, of the Ladies Aid. will be in charge.
