Yellow Jackets Lose
Jackets Lose Long Lead To Suffer Defeat Dusky Charles Webster, Dunkirk’s skyscraping center, tallied a dozen points in the second half Tuesday night as his team scurried back from a 14-point deficit to edge the Decatur Yellow Jackets, 39-37. Decatur was far. in the lead at the close of the first three periods, holding an 11-4 margin at the quarter, a decisive 25-11 edge at the intermission, and a 33-25 lead at the three quarter mark. Webster and associates played havoc with the Yellow Jackets offense in the fateful final stanza, holding the Decatur quintet to four The fourth quarter opened with a free throw by Webster, followed by Decatur’s only field goal of the period, a deliberate set shot by George Bair. Jack Hatch then scored from the charity stripe and Webster tipped one in. Sam Bogner's free throw for the Jackets was followed by a side shot and free toss by Eldon Hickman. Reserve guard James netted i a onehander and Webster tallied! twice on charity throws, tying up the ball game at 36-36 with little: more than a minute of play remain- j ing. By this time Decatur had lost the services of Harold Bohnke, Sam Bogner and Dan Freeby via the foul route. Decatur momentar- i ily took a one point lead on a free throw by Kenny Grant, but a field goal by Hickman and a free throw by Webster put victory in the Speedcats’ bag, 39-37. Dunkirk’s last half rally was a surprise to Decatur players and fans alike, for the Speedcats had been shooting miserably throughout the opening half. Dunkirk's five hit 11 of 23 tries for foul goals, and Decatur made nine of 21. Scoring honors went to Webster, I who tallied six out of six from the charity line, and added six field goals for 18 points. Hickman scored 11 points for the Speedcats.
