Inspect Two Animals Owned By Association Rudolph Fuelling, Edwin J. Fuelling, Loren Kruetzman and Robert Berning went to Indianapolis recently to inspect two Holstein bulls purchased by the Indiana artificial breeding association. Lyn Tremaine, manager of the stud farm, stated that they were bought from Van Hoven brothers. Jennison, Mich., at $5,000 each and have a proven index of 810,843 pounds of butterfat. 1 hese are I among 28 bulls used for artificial breeding purposes throughout the | state. The directors of the Adams) county artificial breeding association have also decided to take ac-' tion concerning the possibility of: opening a veterinary college at Purdue university. Two resolutions pointing out that there are only) eight such schools in the countfly were sent to Harry Reed, dean of Purdue's school of agriculture. I Farm Homes Without Lights And Power Berne, Jan. 13 — Scores of faun homes north of Berne and extending east and west for several miles were without lights and power for several hours Tuesday evening after a big oil tank truck struck and broke off a utility pole two and a half miles north of Berne. The truck owned by the Reliable Oil company of Fort Wayne and driven by Gale Denney ot that city. The truck skidded on the icy highway, left the road and hit the pole, also a corner fence post and signboard. The wires carrying 23000 volts fell to the ground with the pole but the current was turned off before any one was injured. Some of the farm homes were without current until 10 p.m., five hours after the mishap. Farmers with milking machines were badly handicapped. The truck driver escaped injury and the truck was not badly damaged. Many More Farmers Use Electric Power Schenectady, N. Y.,,Jan. 13 —The number of farms in the country now being served by electric power has jumped almost 25 percent in the last three years, according to A. H. Hemker, manager of the General Electric company's farm indue try division. Mr. Hemker pointed out that about 74 percent of the 5,750,000 farms in the United States now use electricity, and said that the in creasing use of ultrasonhs, new applications of infrared rays, and the creation of new measuring instruments for research in agricult ural engineering, are pointing the way to significant developments and more use of electricity on the farm. SOME CITIES (Cont. From Page (lio-l cents. The A & P also reduced price* on 38 meat items, slashing sirloin steak from 65 to 59 cents and pork loin from 49 to 45. At Chicago, a large grocery chain announced that grade A eggs would lie reduced from 65 to 59 cents. It also reported a 7 cent reduction on chuck roast ami sirloin. WE’RE HERE TO SAVE YOU WORK ... help you make MORE MONEY -ms. - A * Sure, we like to sell tractors and implements, but we try to take a bigger view of our job than that. Our first aim is to help the farmer make more money. His success means our success. So, we make a study of farming, just as the farmer does. Maybe we have some good ideas that might work well on your farm ... to save work and make your work pay better. In any case, we want to know you, and your farm better. We are visiting the farms around here and hope to get to yours soon. Meanwhile, if we can serve you in any way, I call up, and we’ll come right out. And drop in whenever you are near us. You’ll find this is a good place to exchange ideas on the subject that you and we are most interested in . . . more profitable farming.
