JAP WARLORDS (Cont. From Page One) placed in the crematorium by Japanese workmen who once bowed and cheered when Tojo, at the height of his power, made wartime tours of Japan. They were reported cremated in large wooden coffins while wearing the same clothing in which they were hanged—cast-off jungle greens once worn by the American troops who toppled the Japanese empire. Execution of the seven war criminals began at one minute past midnight and their ashes were taken from the furnaces and handed to American soldiers at 9:30 a. m. LOWERfOOD (Cont. It was the fourth consecutive month of lower food prices and since food is the biggest single item in the family budget, the drop is enough to offset slight increases in other living essentials. . will take a pay cut early next year. These employes’ wages are pegged in part on the government’s official cost of living index. The index, the labor department reported today, has dropped the last two months. Under General Motors contract with two CIO unions, wages of employes paid on a n hourly basis go up or down one cent an hour for each 1.14 in the six months since the contract was signed, G. M.’s hourly paid employes have collected a three-cents an hour pay boost because of rising living costs. But the last increase was in July and the index has gone down enough since then to cost the hourly paid employes one cent an hour. The next cost of living adjustment in the GM contract will be based on the government’s index figure for Jan. 15. If the index stays where it was Nov. 15, wages of GM’s hourly paid employes will drop one cent an hour.
