The army may not have built I that swank, luxurious plane for Gov. Dewey, but news writers have ■ nicknamed it the Dew Drop. o o —• The weatherman should be reminded that if he doesn’t hand out [ a white Christmas, that he can! keep his showers until after the! holiday. o o A reader reminds us that this is j the season when the poet’s words come true: ‘‘He who gives himself with his alms, feeds three, himself, his hungrying neighbor and me.’’ o o— •— We don’t operate or own stock jn a radio company so will be free with the hint, that you can add to your Christmas happiness by listening to the music and splendid programs now being broadcast., o o Experts claim that this country now has a fuel strong enough to send a rocket to the moon. Some of the fuel used in automobiles on the highways will send careless drivers the other way. o o Supplementing the cash donations to the Good Fellow Fund, several local retail stores ■ contributed largp quantities of toys and clothing, so Santa could make his, visit complete. Quentin Roosevelt, grandson of the former President was killed in an air- , plane-crash in China, where he was a vice-president of the Chinese National Airlines. Only 29, the namesake of his uncle Quentin, who was killed in World War 1. when his plane was shot down over I Germany, he joins his father “in the house of many mansions” *and other members of the Roosevelt family. His father, Brig. General Theodore Roosevelt died in France in the last war. The Roosevelts live strenuous lives and seem' to die before their time. They are great Americans, patriotic and aggressive. o o Christmas Faith: The real, happy-hearted joy of Christmas is for those who believe. The stories of the birth of the Christ Child at Bethlem, tell | us that there was joy on that day i only for a few who believed that iin this birth a most remarkable thing had occurred. In it they
saw the fullflllment of the prophesies. Happiness is a hollow thing this Christmas for anyone who does not believe that men are still reaching upward. For they must be overwhelmed by the wars and unrest and fears of wars which haunt the world. But for those who believe, all things are possible. They know that men do love their fellow men, that in their hearts they do want peace and will in the end seek it where it may be found. For them the Christmas greeting flows from the lips like a gay and meaningful song. It is a bitter blow to the child to learn that St. Nicholas is a legend. Christmas is never quite the same until the heart returns again to the legend to embrace it, not for a belief in a red-coated maker of magic who comes laden with a magic bag of gifts, but because it holds the Spirit of Christmas—a spirit of giving not only things but joy and love, a faith that men are good and that the world, someday, will show it. Yes as the Angels proclaimed, Peace on Earth. o o— — 0 q 20 YEARS AGO ' TODAY o 0 Dec. 23, 1928 was Sunday. Obtains Restraining Order Geraldine J.
