Ben Gerke Reelected Director Os Co-op Named At Meeting Os Membership Hen Gerke, of Decatur route 5, was reelected a director from district two of the Wayne Cooperative Milk Producers. Inc., at a meeting of the membership Monday night. The meeting was held at the Farm Bureau building in Monroe and was attended by members from Adams county and Monroe township (Allen county), which comprise the district. Wayne coop, outlined the immediate pro.-pects for the dairy industry. He emphasized the importance of producers getting in a position to produce high quality milk in order to command the best markets. Dean Atcheson, representing the Cleveland board of health, re-em-phasized the importance of high quality dairy products. He stressed the importance of producers getting the facts on requirements before starting construction. Short talks were given by J. M. Rust, president of the co-op; T. L. McPeak, quality control supervisor; and Leonard Kingsley, director of public relations. Christmas is an event to be celebrated every day of the rear. Hang Jinx Sign On House Committee Three Spy Figures Die During Inquiry Washington, Dec. 22 — (VP) They are beginning to hang the “jinx” sign on the house unAmerican activities committee's investigation of alleged communist espionage within the government. Three persons whose names i have figured in the case have died . since the inquiry opened last summer Ti • chairman of the committee, Rep. J. Parnell Thomas. IL. N. J . lias been indicted by a federal grand jury on payroll kickback i charges. Two Republican members of the committee were defeated in . he November election. Whittaker Chambers, the excommunist whose charges brought the case into the open, felt compelled to resign his $25,000 a year job with Time magazine Alger Hiss, ex-state department official named by Chambers as a communist agent within the government, lias been indicted for perjury and has submitted his; resignation from a $20,000 post as president of the Carnegie endow ment for international peace The resignation lias not been acted upon however. Mrs. Chambers wa .‘involved in a fatal automobile accident last Friday when her car struck a pedestrian who died of the injuries. At the time she was enroute to ■ the Baltimore station to pick up ; Chambers who had been testifying] ' before the New York grand jury ■ investigating espionage. She is I' now free on bond on charges 1 arising from the accident. Death first struck Harry Dexter I White, former treasury official i‘ named by Chambers as a figure in; a Washington communist "appar-I' atus." While appeared before the]' committee in August and denied the allegations. He seemed to lie in good health, and to enjoy lengthy and sharp exchanges with thel committee.
