Commodores Lose To Hoagland Quint?

Allen County Five Defeats Locals, 40-22 Leading by six points at half time, Hoagland scored seven field goals and two free throws in the third period and went on to crush the Decatur Commodores. 40-22, Wednesday night on the winners' court. Decatur led 5-4 with two minutes remaining in the first stanza, the last time of the game that the Green and Gold were to hold a sur-; plus. Hoagland led 6-5 at the quarter, 14-8 at the half and 30-14 at the three-quarter mark. It was the Commodore's sixth defeat in seven starts, and brought the Blue and White's average to five and five. Hawkins and R. Guenin led the Wildcat scoring with eight points apiece. Jim iMeyer equalled their mark and John Kable turned in seven points for the Commodores. The Wildcats scored their gl I first-half points from the floor, missing all seven tries from the charity stripe. Decatur was held to three points in the second quarter, a field goal by Kable and a free throw by Meyer. Hoagland's fast breaking offense was an important factor in their victory. Their double pivot strategy made the Commodores’ zone defense ineffective. And offensively Decatur rarely could get the ball under the bucket, in the face of Hoagland's man to-uian resistance.! After a day for recuperation the Commodores will be back in action Friday night, meeting the Monroe Bearkatz at the Yellow Jackets' gym. After that the quintet will >be able to spend two weeks in badlyneeded scrimmage and strategy sessions (before their next game, against Lancaster, on the 30th, at the Commodores gym.
