Rep. James Hunter, East Chicago, was named Democratic house caucus chairman. Rep. Robert Heller was named house speaker at an earlier caucus. New chairman of the Democratic house policy committee is Rep. Leo Meagher of Evansville. Republican representatives named Hughes of Fort Wayne as minority leader. Rep. Howard Steel, KmK, was selected caucus chairman. Hughes defeated Rep. Gten Slenker of Monticello by four votes. Van Ness was selected majority leader in the senate several weeks ago. Today’s joint session will be devoted also to a discussion of legislative patronage.
