Creamed Comments on* the Sunday School Lesson, Parables in the Bible, Matthew 13:31-46; Luke 16:-3-10; or Sunday. November 28. The kingdom of God is so indefinable that different concepts are given of it by 'parables. Paul defined jt as “righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost.” Romans 14:17. Vs. 31,32. “Another parable put be forth to them, saying. The kingdom of heaven is ,like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in the field; which indeed is the least of all seeds; but when it is grown, it is the greatest among al] the herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.” The teachings of the kingdom of God here are in the capacity to grow. God endows the things of the kingdom with vitality. A fitly word spoken in the name of Christ, a Christian deed, a humble Christian witness, all have transforming power. V. 33. “Another ipara'ble spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto a leaven, which 1 a woman took, and hid in three, measures of meal, till the whole' was leavened.” This parable teach-* es us how the kingdom of God. grows. Much of the growth of the kingdom is invisible. Here is also' taught the fact of the whole of life changed by the working of the leaven. Either one is a Christian or he is not. There is no snch thing as a half Christian. It is impossible to give an accurate Christian report of a man. of a church, of a society or of a nation since much of the work of God in the hearts of men is not seen; but in time the truth will out. V. 44. “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hid in a field: the which when a man ha'h found, he hideth. and for joy thereof goeth and selleth al) that he hath, and buyeth that field.” The kingdom Is worth all it costs. It means the surrender of lesser values. For the kingdom we can well afford to give up our earthly [desires and all that is selfish. | Vs. 45,46. “Again, the kingdom | of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls; who when he had found one .pearl of great price, went and sold all that
If you never engage in recreation, your youthful spirit is dead. If you do not enjoy a beautiful and inspiring sunset, beautiful scenery, good music, you are dead to art. if you contact others only in business, you are dead to fellowship and friepdshk)i. If you never pray except in trouble, your religion is dead. Clericus Says: Clericus says: "Something of incalulable value happens in a man’s _ life when Christ really takes over his heart. Under these circums antes, a man's taste changes. his passions are directed toward worthy objects, scales drop "im his hlincked eyes, fetters which have held his soul in bondage are severed, his carnal, corrupt self-seeking nature dies, and a spirit of trust is born.” Growth comes 'by self-mastery.

he had, and bought it.” This parable teaches the need of havftig such an interest in Christ as to be .willing to leave to follow him. Christ is the Pearl, the most precious jewel in that day. Whatever stands in opposition to Christ, or in competition with him. for our lov e and service, we must cheerfully quit, though ever so dear to us.
Vs. 3-6. “And he spake this parable unto them, saying, What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose- one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? And when he hath found it, he layeth on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbors, saying unto them. Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.” In this parable is presented God’s attitude toward lost men. The sheep was lost through its own ignorance or through its perverse unwillingness to stay with the flock and follow the shepherd. Jesus was interested and is still interested in persons, even the most unlikely ones. Just as the shepherd naturally rejoices over j the sheep that has been found, .without particular thought at the time concerninng those already safe, so it is when a wanderer, returns to God. There is joy over the rescue, without attention being centered upon the faithful saints who are already in the church, though their souls are valuable. too. Vs. 8,9. "Either what .woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and! seek diligently till she find it? I And when she hath found it, she. calleth her friends and her neigh-1 bors together, saying. Rejoice with, me; for I have found the piece which I had lost.” The coin was J lost through the carelessness of some one else. Some sinners per ] ish because of their own foolishness and others perish because of the wickedness o those who should be their teachers and guides. We are coins with the image of the divine stamped upon us. V.lO. "Likewise I say unto you. there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one skinner that repenteth." So great is the event of a converted soul that there is rejoicing in heaven. Christ assumes not only the existence of angels, but knowledge on their part concerning what is going onj in the earth.
Lesson Prayer Lesson Prayer: We are grateful that we have been created in the image of God and that divine iprovisions have been made to bring out that image in personality in order that the image within tnay be seen as the Lord under whose reign the kingdom of God comes within us and into society by our Christian service. — Book Review Contemporary Religious Jurisprudence, by I. We can, worship God any time, anywhere, but do we s’orshiip outside the public service? We can worship on the lake fishing, but we don't; on the golf course or in our branes on Sunday, but do we? We can worship driving in an automobile, but we don't; by bestructions at once. If you have to give several at once, repeat them slowly and carefully. 3. Be consistent in Instructions. Toiling the child to do a thing one day, and the apposite the next contuses him. 4. Ask him to do only those things that you really intend to have him do. Do not give needless or trivial commands because you have not stopped to think or want to show your authority. 5. Be sure that you are reasonable and right in what you require; then see to it that what you require is carried out. 6. Do not give commands or punish when you are angry. 7. Do not use threats and do not as a rule use bribes as a method of gaining obedience.
Church || ForumW ■HaHBKMS What constitutes a friend? What is a friend? I wiR tell you. It is a person with whran you dare to be yourself. Your soul can go naked iwith him. He seems to ask you to put on nothing, only to be what you are. He does not want you to get better or worse. When you are with him you feel as a prisoner feels who has been declared innocent. You do not have to be on your guard. You can say what you think, express what you feel. He is shocked at nothing, offended at nothing, so iong as it is genuinely you. He understands those traditions in your nature that lead others to misjudge you With him you breathe freely. You can tike off your coat and loosen your collar. You can avow your little vanities and absurdities, and in opening them up to him they are lost, dissolved in l the white ocean of his loyalty. He understands. You do not have to be careful. You can abuse him. neglect, berate him, Best of all you can keep still with him. It makes no matter. He likes you. He is like fire, that purifies all you do.
