Snow Is Predicted In Entire Midwest Violent Storms To Plague West Coast By United Press The weatherman predicted snow for the entire midwest tonight, and said that, violent storms will continue off Oregon and Prince Rupert, B. C.. where a tug and a cargo vessel carrying 34 crewmen were reported in distress. An "extensive" storm was reported in Kansas, and the federal weather bureau here said that snow had been across Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming since yesterday afternoon. The forecast for the midwest was for rain today, becoming mixed with snow tonight. The weather bureau also said that a Pacific storm was churning eastward from south of the Aleutians, puffing winds of up to 50 miles an hour along a 1.200-mile front. The navy was author! ed to go ahead with a 65,000 ton aircraft carrier program. The navy intends to shoot the works on that and put all the tonnage in one vessel, the largest afloat. That big carrier is the source of much current friction between the navy and air force. The air force argues that the navy doesn't need any such vessel and that its use in combat would have to bein a field operations expressly reserved by agreement to the air force. That field is strategic bombing as distinct from tactical bombing. Strategic bombing is usually long range business and never directly associated with tlie operations of ground troops. The big carrier proposed by the navy is to carry long range bombers. Steamer Capsizes, 500 Are Drowned Bombay. Mon Arrested For Reckless Driving Carl Barhett, of 558 Studebaker street, was due to face trial today in Portland on a reckless driving charge after his arrest here Wednesday, night. Barnett, who drives a semi-trailer truck, allegedly crowded another driver, also named Barnett, off the highway near Portland. Be was said to have fled the scene, and was apprehended on Thirteenth street by officer Adrian Coffee and deputy sheriff Bob Shraluka. who were alerted for the truck by radio.
