SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS ANNOUNCED BY SORORITY Tri Kappa sorority lx announcing scholarship awards for the coming school year in the amount of fiftytwo hundred dollars. Among the re dpients of the 1948 awards are: two hundred dollars to Miss Elizabeth Ward, dean of women at Butler university, to be used by her in helping worthy girl students as needs develop; fine arts scholarship, a cash award of five hundred dollars given annually to art or music students, to Carol Mitchell. Rochester, who will atudy at John Herron Art institute; Beryl Shower* Holland fellowship, increased from six hundred and fifty to seven hundred dollars, to Carolyn Ballivan. graduate st mien' at Indiana university in religious personnel. The remaining awards were made to fourteen young women and one zoung man who plan to pursue their studies at various Indiana schools this fail. The sorority started its fcholarchip program forty years ago and since that time more than five hundred thousand dollars has been spent for the promotion of educa tion and many Indiana girls and noys have been helped In attaining heir educational aims.
COMBINED CHURCH GROUPS MEET The ladles Aid sociely and the Women’s Society for World Service of the Bethany Evangelical United Brethren church held a combined meeting Thursday afternoon in the social room* of the church. Mrs. Wil! Dellinger conducted a short hustoess meeting for the Ladle* Aid. at which time volunteer* were asked to serve dinner for the men's club Monday evening. Mr*. Earl Fuhrman was chairman >f the program "Building Bridges ’’ Mrs. George Hamms played as the piano prelude "How Firm a Foundation," after which she offered prayer. The song was then sung by the group, followed by an article on "Firm Founda'ion and Firm Sup port of Our Christian Bridges." Two Men Fined For Public Intoxication Two out-of-town men who pleaded guilty to charge* of public intoxication filed against them by police were each fined |5 and costs total ing |ls In mayor’s court this morning.
