AFL Packers Sign New Swift Contract Will Seek To Oust Rival CIO Workers Chicago, July 8-(UP)— The Amalgamated Meat Cutters union. (AFL) announced today that it has signed a new contract with Swift S Co., and that It will seek to oust the rival CIO packinghouse workers from many of the nation's big meat plants. The contract with Swift was the second signed by the union with a major packer within the last week. Previously the union announced it had reached agreement with Armour and Co. Neither new contract provides for a wage increase, but each provides that wages may be negotiated once during the coming year. Union officials said they believed it was good tactics to forego a wage increase now to await further developments within industry. Union spokesmen said petitions would be filed for bargaining elections in at least 18 plants where the rival CIO United Packinghouse workefs now represents the employes. The CIO union ihis spring waged and lost a bitter strike for , a 29-cent hourly raise. The union finally was forced to accept the same nine cent raise that the AFL got without a strike. AFL officials charged that the , CIO strike weakened theAFL's bargaining position during current negotiations. The contracts of both unions with the "big four" packers expire Aug. It. The AFL still must negotiate new agreements with Cudahy and Wilson. The CIO has yet to negotiate ■ new contracts with all four firms Sistie Dall Wed In I Arizona Wednesday I Phoenix, Artz..
