Jung 23 -(UP)— The fearsome reputation founded through the year* by Joe Loßi* made the “Brown Bomber" a heavy favorite with a cross-section of the sports world to defend his heavyweight championship successfully tonight against Jersey Joe Walcott. Strangely enough, most of the sentiment favoring Walcott came from within the fight game itself but in the other sports they banked heavily on the old adage of riding with the champion. Here is the way some of them look at it: For Walcott: • Jack Sharkey, former heavy weight king “If he makes the same fight he did last time." Charley Johnson, president fight managers' guild—“ Because up to now Walcott was a hungry fighter. Now he's eating regularly."
