Hog Prices Set New < All-Time June Mark Prices Are Highest Since Last January Chicago. June 22—(UP)— The U. S. department nt agriculture said today that bog prices oa the Chicago market yesterday w«Ae the highest since last January and set an all-time record for June The top price for hogs was 628.50 as receipts slumped to the lowest Monday mark in ten weeks. Farmers shipped only 9,500 hogs to market yesterday, as compared with 14,566 a week ago. Ilogs sold for 130 in Buffalo, the country's highest price. The agriculture department, meanwhile, issued a report which estimated that the 1948 spring pig crop at 51.421.000, a three percent drop from the 1947 figure. The soaring hog prices partially offset the decline in lambs and many classes of cattle, livestock officiate said. Hogs averaged 125.25 which was 25 cents above last week's closing price. At Austin. Minn., however, cattle prices zoomed to a record high. The Larson Brothers farm of Frost. Minn., received 139.32 , for two choice steers, the highest ; market prices ever paid there. In a sudden market break at Chicago, lamb prices dropped 12. Most cattle prices decreased, although sntee of the best grades of steers above $36 held steady. ARIZONA (Cont. From I'aire One) I. , - ' tee. the latter after a heated pub- ' lie hearing.
