The pledge was led by Richard Bleeke, after which a demonstration on "How to Spray a Calf” was given by lx*o Thieme and Edward Marbach. Games were later played and delicious refreshments were served by !,eo Thieme, Norvln anti Edward Marbach. At the May 14 meeting, "How to Trim Calves' Hoofs" was the lesson subject given by Benjamin Gerke, the adult leader. The committee in charge of the meeting included Arnold Gerke. Vernon Abbot and Melvin Krueckeberg. The next meeting will be held June 11 at the home of Allen Grote. Up and At It The 4-H club of Blue Creek township had their fifth meeting at the home of Judy Brunstrup. May 31. The meeting was called to order by the president. Vivian Buckanou. The group enjoyed singing, "I'm Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover.” Eleven memlters responded to the roll call by naming the "Favorite Sport." The minutes of the pre-, vious meeting were read by Wava Fox. A business meeting was conducted. Rose Ann Bilderback, Patsy Burkhart. and Kuzauiie Kuhn gave a demonstration on "Baking a Cake.” Refreshments were served by Judy Brunstrup, and Mary Bilderback. Calf Club Members In Meeting Monday Approximately 135 4-H dairy calf club members, their parents and friends attended a special Interest meeting at the P. B. Lehman farm Monday evening. Suggestions were given for showing calves. Refreshmenu were served. The adult committeemen announc ed a 4-H dairy tour and basket dinner for July 5, details to be announced later. County agent Archbold told of the grassland field day at Huntington June 16 and urged all dairymen and their wives to attend. It was sold on the Fort Wayne market at 325.75 per pound, netting Werling $547.18 The bull was delivered to market by Vern Linker. 200 Indiana Farmers To Make West Trip Indianapolis. June 8 — (UPI — Some 200 Indiana farmers will take a 5,000-tnlU trip to the west between harvest seasons this summer, the Indiana Farm Bureau said today. The vacation journey will start Aug. 19 and will Include visits to Pike's Peak and four national parks, the bureau said. Trip manager Glenn Sample said the trip was timed so that it would allow farmers to leave after the small grain harvest of wheat and oats and to return to the state In time for the corn harvest and the state fair. lowa Governor Is Bealen In Primary Gov. Robert Blue Upset In Primary Des Moines, la., June 8 — (UP) — State Rep. William Beardsley, a 47-year-old druggist, won the Republican nomination for governor of lowa today, scoring an upset victory over Gov. Robert Blue who was fighting for a third term. Blue conceded defeat before half the returns were reported. He was the only Incumbent beaten in the statewide contests on the GOP ticket U. 8. Sen. George Wilson wa/an easy winner over John Calhoun of Burlington in hl* fight for renomination. Latest returns from 2,100 of the state's 2.169 precincts gave Beards ley 169.056 votes to 107,011 for Blue With 1.383 precincts reporting, Wilson had 93.969 votes to 43,222 for Calhoun. In November Wilson will face former Sen. Guy Gillette of Cherokee, la . who beat Ernest Scemann of Waterloo in the only statewide contest of the Democratic primary where voting was comparatively light. Seven of the state's eight congressmen. ail Republicans, were renominated. Only three of the eight had opposition. The one congressional Incumbent to lose was Rep. John Cwynne who was defeated for the GOP nomination in the third district by former newscaster H. R. Gross. With 288 precincts reporting of the 313 in the district. Gross polled 20.914 to 17.182 for Gwynne. In November. Beardsley will be opposed by Carroll Switzer, who was unopposed for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.
