Legion Loses To Post 47 In League Opener — Limited to only four hit*, the Decatur American Legion baseball team was handed a 5-1 defeat by Legion Post 47. Fort Wayne, in the Federation league opener Sundayday afternoon at Worthman field. Cossairt. Decatur hurler. and Mingus, of Post 47. were locked in a scoreless duel for four innings but the Fort Wayne nine broke through for two runs on five hits in the fifth inning Voight's homer gave the winners another tally in the seventh, and Post 47 wound up its scoring in the eighth on two hits, a walk and a fielder's choice. Decaturs lone run was plated in the sixth when Schmidt doubled and scored on Krauss' single Fort Wayne's 10-bit attack was paced by Voight, who singled in addition to his home run. In other Federation league 1 games Sunday. Van Wert blank ed Harvester. 5-0. on one-hit hurl 1 Ing by Fleck and Adams; Huntertown edged out a 9-8 win over Fort Wayne .Moose, and Redkey eked out a 1-0 triumph over Cecil. O. Decatur will play Van Wert at Worthman field next Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in another league . battle. Jackets Take Double Header From Marion Featured by Gaunt’s no-hit hurling, the Decatur Yellow Jackets handed Marlon high school a pair of defeats In a double header play ed at the Veterans' hospital in Marlon Saturday. The victories, the eighth and ninth of the season without a defeat for Coach Darwin’s Jackets, were by scores of 2-0 and 7-1. Both games were limited to five innings. Only three batters reached first haee against Gaunt in the opener, one on a walk and two on errors. Gaunt also fanned seven batters. Decatur scored both its runs in the second inning.
