Al?bama Revolt On Truman Spreading I Other States May Follow In Revolt — Washington. May 7 <1 Pt — The Alabama plan to prevent President Truman's election next, November even though he be the Democratic nominee was spreading today to other southern states South Carolina. Mississippi and Arkansas members of congress told the i'nited Press today their states very likely would follow Ala-1 Iba ma's lead. Alabama on Tuesday named to the electoral college 11 persons pledged to withhold the state's vole from Mr Truman. Virginia with 11 electors may vote against Mr Truman on instruction of a state convention The movement to send anti-Tru-1 man delegates to the Democratic i national convention also is well advanced in the south. That might not prevent Mr Truman's nomination for a White House term of his own. The -popular voting on Nov 2, however, will not directly elect a president That must be done by I the electoral college which meets Inter and of 531 members When the electoral college casts a minimum of 2<J6 votes tor an eligible candidate, that person Is elected president of the I'nited States South Carolina. Mississippi. Arkansas and Alabama will have 37 ■ votes In the electoral college. Mr , Truman is not likely to have any < electoral votes to spare when tiecollege votes. Hospilal Inmate Admits Slaying Deaf Mute Admits Evansville Death Evansvi'ie, Ind., May 7—(VP) | Verle McDowell. 33-year-old iiw mate ai the Evansville state mental hospital here for two years, was held by authorities today after scribbling out a confession that he raped a woman patient and then l>»-at her to death. Police said McDowell, a deaf mute, admitted criminally attack Ing Mr*. Anna Mae Ligon, 43, when they happened to meet in a basement corridor of the hospital Wednesday night. The woman'* battered body was found in a vacant store room yesterday. Mrs. Ligon, a "privileged" patient, was walking to a canteen when she was attacked.
