Sen. Tass Defends Tass-Hartley law Seeks Liberal Vote Away From Stassen Ashtabula. 0., April 21 —(UP)~ Sen. Robert A. Taft vlgorlously defended the Taft-Hartley hill here today as he opened a two week last ditch campaign designed to lure the liberal vote away from Harold E. Stassen. Taft, speaking before 200 persons at a breakfast meeting, said the fundamental Issue in the United States and throughout the world wae whether the government would have complete control over the lives of citizen* The senator berated Htassen. exgovernor of Minnesota, who is seeking Ohio delegates to the Republican national convention, for hl* claims to liberalism. "Other than giving more money to Europe, I don’t know what he ts Ir. more liberal in." Taft said. "If he can develop a more (literal program within the principles of Republicanism than we have developed in Washington. I would like to know what that program I*.” Taft championed the labor law parsed by congress as a "bill whi'-h took union member* out from under the thumbs of union leaders." He said that "to a large extent, this hill is a restoration of rights to union mesnitem."
