J j Creamed Cl I | Comments ' | on S.S.SanJ Creamed Comments on the Sunday School Lesson, The Personal Witness for Christ, Acts 8:26-39 for Sunday, March 7. There is portrayed in this lesson the rightful place of a layman in the church. Philip was appointed one of the deacons of the early Church a,s a lay-worker looking after the needs of others; he looked after the spiritual needs of others with their physical needs so well that he was known as the evangelist. V. 26. "And the angel of the Lord spoke unto Philip, saying, arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth from Jerusalem unto Gaza which is desert.” Philip lived so close to the Lord that he could hear from God. God issued a call to go to a desert which would seem the most unpropitious place to win souls to God. Some of God’s most glorious achievments have been wrought in most unlikely places. V. 27. “And he arose and went; and, behold, a man of Ethopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of Ethopians, who had charge of all her treasures, i and had to come to Jerusalem to 1 worship.” A good witness acts im- i mediately at the first opportunity; ; he does not stop for race or color, i There is a chance to win a soul 1 that seeks God in worship. ; V. 28. "Was returning, sitting in his chariot, read Isaias the Proph- 1 et.” A seeker after God will use i the scriptures to find the light. 1
V. 29. “Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to his chariot.” The man whose chief business is Christian witnessing and soul winning will get special help from God. V. 30. And Philip ran thither to him and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?” Philip was interested in what this stranger was reading; to get started in soul winning, find something at first of common interest. V. 31. Ami ne said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.” Correct Bible interpretation is of great
Oup Preacher ■ Much of our time, energy, talent I and money is wasted because of the lack of definite planning and because of work begun and left unfinished: this is not only true of our every day work but of Christian work as well. Here are three good rules: 1. Consider well before beginning whether this is the right thing to do. 2. Do well that which is undertaken always do your best. 3. Stick to it till finished - Be faithful unto death. O Lesson Prayer Lesson Prayer: We are grateful that each of us can have a part in making this a Christian world by

importance; a good Christian witness needs to know his Bible well. Vs. 32,33. “And the place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, eo opened he not his mouth. In his humiliation his judgment was taken away; and who shall declare his generation? for his life shall be taken from the earth.” These words are quoted from Isaiah 53:7,8. They tell about the suffering Servant of the Lord, who was the Messiah. God’s word becomes plainer through the yeans for there is a continual revelation of God and his will to men to those who walk with God. V. 34. "And the ennuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?” This was a natural question to ask. One who had not heard of Christ would be puzzled. But there is hope for the man who asks sane questions about God and his ward.
V. 35. "Then Philip opened his mouth, and begun at the same scripture and preached unto him Jesus.” No better text could have been desired by Philip. God was evidently directing the proceedings. Here is an example of the fact, declared by Christ, that the Old testament testifies of him. V. 36. “And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water; and the eunuch said, Here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?” Evidently Philip gave the needed instructions a seeker after God ought to know since the eunuch aeked for baptism. It speaks well for a seeker after God to take all the New Testament steps. V. 37. “And Philip said. If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” Here the first Gentile Christian gave the utterance that churches of all faiths agree as being fundamental. V. 38. "And he commanded the chariot to stand etill; and they went down, both into the water, both Philip and the Eunuch; and he baptized him.” Note that Philip began his interview with Jesus as the central theme and he ends with emphasis on Jesus.
V. 39. "And when they were come up out of the water, tne Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip.” In finding Chist, the new experience permits the soulwinner to drop out, for it is Jesus that must be magnified.
witnessing for Christ a study and then so direct our every expression that we may make the subject of being Christian witnesses. Grant that we shay bear unequivocal testimony that Christ is the Saviour of the world whom all need to accept. 0 - I Wit’SMl I — J |l WisdomTw! ■ A New Sin The pastor was examining one of the younger class, and asked the question, "What are the sins of omission?” After a little silence, one young lady offered: “Please, sir, they’re sins we ought to have committed and haven’t.” O The Christian Hope of Immortality, Tayler. is a short compact, tightly knit exposition of the J Christian doctrine of immortality. ; The hook deals with questions of . universal interest such at the nature of the future life and deals i effectively with distortion and coni fusions.

Our concept of Christ is gained largely in early childhood; children grasp with interest the child In the manger and are open to further instruction of the Babe of Bethlehem. Christian teaching in the home and in the church gives direction to a further understanding and of an increasing appreciation of the Lord. In the later life when Christ is openly acknowledged as one’s personal saviour, the kind

National leaders must do the work of the government and we as a people must obey, obey to the point of entering military service when government iso. But in the final analysis it is public opinion that governs the minds and actions of our national leaders and with the right of franchise in the hands of the public, a public officer holds his office by virtue of what the people think. Therefore, we the people of the United States must be a thinking wisely and then together express our conclusions.
