Support Producer - Prices For Foods Government Bought 9 Different Foods Washington. Feb. 25 — (UP) - Since last July 1, the government has purchased nine different foods to support producer prices. None of the purchases stemmed ■ from the recent commodity market break. Grains and other farm commodities affected by the break still are above their support price, except for flaxseed. The foods purchased in price support operations' this fiscal year were Irish potatoes, sweet potatoes, peanuts, raisins, dried and fresh apples, dried figs, fresh winter pears, honey and grapefruit (in the form of canned juice). Except for peanuts and dried fruits, the amount purchased by the I OSii •< | |i i I- 111 f- ■ i B 11l <•. ■ 1 jj J j y 5 w |g w It will pay you to buy your New Washing Machine at i Stucky & Co. government was small in relation to total production. The government purchased nearly one-third of the dried fruit output. The agricultural department also stands ready with loans and purchase programs to take wheat, corn, cotton, barley, turkeys, chickens, eggs and other commodities off farmers’ hands, if the markets won’t pay the support price. So far, that hasn't been necessary. Here’s how a few support prices compare with the most recent market prices: • No. 1 Hard winter wheat — support price $2.03 a bushel at Kansas City. Buyers paid $2.39 to $2.49 yesterday. Hogs — Support price, sl6 per 100 pounds for good and choice barrow, s and gilts at Chicago. Meat packers yesterday paid from sl9 to S2O per 100 pounds. Grain sorghums — Support price. $2.50 per 100 pounds at Kansas City. Yesterday's actual prices ranged 'from $3.67 to $3.70. Cotton — Support price, 27.89 cents a pound at New Orleans for I 15/16 middling. Yesterday’s price was 32.60 cents. Most price support foods are being exported to hungry nations, under the interim aid program. A small portion has moved into the school lunch program. Some of the potatoes were diverted to industrial uses. The government has nearly cleared out its istockpile of pricesupport foods. The present price support program expires after 1948 crops are marketed. o Garrett Trucker Is Killed In Accident Auburn, Ind., Feb. 26 — (UP) — Charles Snyder of Garrett died today of injuries suffered last night when the truck he was driving skidded off the road and down a 25-foot embankment. The accident occurred on the Au-burn-Ashley road near the New York Central railroad crossing and was discovered by a passing freight train engineer.
