The cold air rushed into the United States last night and at midnight temperatures in Montana and North Dakota had dropped as much as 50 degrees in 24 hours. The mercury tumbled from 31 to 4 degrees at Bismark. N. D.. between 9 p.m. and midnight, a drop of 27 degrees in the three-hour period. Williston, N. D., was the coldest spot in the nation early today with a temperature of seven degrees below zero, but many other sub-zero readings were reported in North Dakota and Montana. The mercury is expected to sink to -20 in northern Minnesota and North Dakota tonight. The Chicago weather bureau said the new cold wave would push into the Ohio Valley tomorrow morning and probably would extend to the Atlantic coast by Saturday. It

Brownies Inspect Democrat Office Twelve members of Decatur , Brownie troop 35, under the direc- ' tion of two leaders made a tour of • inspection of the Daily Democrat newspaper and job printing offices late Wednesday afternoon. A staff member of the newspaper escorted the embryonic Girl Scouts and their leaders through the printing plant, explaining the various steps in publishing a daily edition. Mrs. Don Jefferies and Mrs. Chet Kleinight, leaders of the troop, supervised the inspection tour. Troop members participating: Sara Brunnegraf, Edwina Booth, Judy Dedolph, Gloria Fugate, Patty Helm, Joyce Irwin, Marilyn Jefferies, Madge Scheiderer.
