CIO Again Assails Taft-Hartley law Depriving Unions Os Civil Liberties Washington, Feb. 12 — (UP) — The CIO said today the Taft-Hart-ley law has the “purpose anjl effect of depriving unions and their members of basic civil liberties.” This charge was made by Frank Donner, CIO assistant counsel, in a brief mailed to the U. S. district court at Indianapolis. The CIO “endorsed and adopted” the arguments, of the International Typographical union (AFL) in urging the court to dismiss a government request for an injunction forcing the printers’ union to halt alleged unfair labor practices.
The CIO is the first of four labor and three publisher organizations to submit briefs as friends of the court in the printers’ case. The others must file by next Monday. The court has the case under advisement. The CIO seconded the typographical union’s claim that the TaftHartley law deprives the district court of judicial power granted by the constitution and deprives the union of its rights without due process of law. “In the present case the court does not have the power to make a final adjudication at this time or j any other,” Donner said. “The act; that gives that power to the nation-[ al labor relations board and then to the circuit court of appeals.

“Under these circumstances, since this is a final injunction the respondents (printers' union) and their members are deprived of their liberty and jJroperty without due process of law.” Other briefs in support of the printers are being prepared by the American Federation of Labor, United Mine Workers and International Association of Machinists. Briefs in opposition will be submitted by the American Newspaper Publishers Association, Inland Daily Press Association and Southern Newspaper Publishers Association. o — Proctor & Gamble Cuts Soap Prices Cincinnati. 0., Feb. 12 — (UP) The Procter & Gamble Co. today announced an immediate reduction of five percent in wholesale prices of all its soap and soap powder products. —o Trade In a Good Town — Decatur —-O ———— URGES FOLLOWING
