Yellow Jackets Lose To
Jackets Handed One-Point Loss Tuesday Night Decatur’s Yellow Jackets, after leading most of the ball game, j dropped a heart-breaking one-point j decision to the Hartford City Aire- ] dales. 33-32. on the Hartford City j court Tuesday night. The Yellow Jackets held a lead of 32-31 with four seconds of play remaining when Browtj, Hartford City forward, tipped in a rebound to give the Airdales the triumph. Decatur, paced by McAlhaney’s
three fielders, held a 10-5 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Jackets were held to three points in the second period while the Airedales tallied eight to pull into a 13-13 tie at the intermission. Holmes counted Decatur’s only field goal in this quarter. The Yellow Jackets again went into the lead and were on top at the close of the third period. 24-21. Decatur was still in front. 29-27, with two and one-half minutes of playing time remaining but Hartford City pulled within a single point and then snatched the game out of the fire in the closing seconds. Kile, Hartford City’s center, was the game's leading scorer with 12 points on three field goals and a line number of foul tosses. Me Alhaney was Decatur’s top scorer with 11 points on five field goals and one free throw.
Last night’s game was Decatur’s final road contest of the season. The Jackets will entertain the close the season Feb. 20 with the Berne Bears here Friday night, and Portland Panthers on the local hardwood. Twelve of the strongest teams in Northern Indiana will be participating. There will be two games each night with the semifinals on Saturday afternoon. A consolation game will precede the Saturday night final game. These games will be held at the East Union Center gym. Cash prize awards totaling $175 will .be given.
