Russia Announces Pact With Romania Likely Forerunner To Other Treaties London, Feb. 5. — (UP) — Radio Moscow announced today that Russia has signed a mutual aid military pact with Romania binding both countries to fight against any aggressive threat from Germany "or any other state.” Soviet foreign minister V. M. Molotov, in a statement on the treaty, said it was directed against "fomenters of a new war from the imperialist camp.” The treaty runs for 20. years. It will be renewed automatically every five years unless it is renounced a year before the end of the five-year term. In event of aggression against either country, the treaty provides specifically that “the other contracting party will immediately render military and other assistance by all the means at its disposal.” Political observers expressed belief the Soviet-Romanian treaty was the forerunner of other treaties binding Russia directly to the other states of the Balkan confederation. The Balkan states already are bound together by an intricate system of interlocking treaties among themselves. “The contracting parties pledge to take It; ommon all possible QUICF EF FROM Symptom _ss Arising from STOM < ULCERS duetoEX , -iSS ACID Free Book Tells of H omeTreatmentthat Must Help or it Will Cost You Nothing Over three million bottles of the Willard Treatment have been sold for reliei of symptoms of distress arising from Stomach and Duodenal Ulcers due to Excess Acid — Poor Digestion, Sour or Upset Stomach, Gassiness, Heartburn, Sleeplessness, etc., due to Excess Acid. To Probe Shortage Os Natural Gas l Shift Attention From Oil To Gas Washington, Feb. 5. —(UP) — House investigators of the fuel shortage today shifted their attention temporarily from oil to natural gas. Chairman Charles A. Wolverton, R.. N. J., said his interstate commerce committee will take up —probably next week— reports that gas is running short in many cities, especially in the midwest. Wolverton emphasized that the group has not abandoned its long study of the heating oil crisis. “It’s just that we can’t do two things at once,” he explained. The gas investigation was prompted by complaints from Michigan congressmen that industrial plants in Detroit are closing for lack of natural gas. They said resulting unemployment is widespread. Chairman Walter E. Hallanan of the national petroleum council today named a 26-member advisory committee to handle the oil industry’s emergency conservation program in midwestern states. , Headed by B. L. Majewski, vice president of Deep Rock Oil Corp., Chicago, the committee will recommend pooling of supplies and transportation facilities wherever
' necessary to relieve the shortage. In a report to the house on its month-long investigation of petro- ■ leum, the commerce committee took a swing at price-gougers in fuel oil, and hinted that congress may want to put some brake on • price boosts. The committee asked the com- ■ merce department to make an immediate investigation of petroleum prices andh’report the results to congress. It said its earlier fears of price boosts have been borne out. 0 Berne Auditorium Officers Retoined Berne, Feb. 5 — All the old officers and directors of the Berne Community Auditorium Association were retained at the annual stockholders meeting held last night.
