|c reamed pi | | B On Jo, Lesson Creamed Comments on the Sunday School Lesson, God’s Eternal Rule, Revelation 21:7-7: 21:22-37 for Sunday, December 28. John depicts the future life in symbolic terms, suggesting that it is beyond human description using plain language. Nevertheless the future’ life is so connected with the present life, so arranged that each day can be better than the last; this life is to grow in character, enjoy new victories each day. V.l. “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away: and there was no more sea.” The Christian life will change for the better continually, which, when lived in fellowship with others here and hereafter, will seem like a new heaven and a new earth. V. 2. “And I. John, saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” As the Palestine Jerusalem represented the society of the redeemed on earth, so the new Jerusalem represents the redeemed in glory. The fellow-ship of the new Jerusalem is most beautiful. V. 3. “And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with tliem, and be their God.” The tabernacle suggested God dwelling with his people on earth; but the fact of God dwelling with his people is such an accepted reality that the idea of the earthy tabernacle is so evident that there is no need of an aid. It is important that the presence of God be experienced to insure the same in the future life. V. 4. “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death there, neither sorrow, nor crying; neither shall there be any pain; for the former things are passed away.” Here is described tjie ideal society. With God there will be no failure to make it so. V. 5. “And he that sat upon the throne said. Behold I make all things new. And be said unto me, light of it; and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honOur Preacher w “Where do we go from here” is a popular saying and very apropos New Year's Day. We know where we have been; our record for 1947 has been made and it must stand; we wish that we might change some things in the record and so we may start at the place where we wish we had done differently and say to ourselves with all our will power from here we go forward, onward and upward with the help of God. 0 Lesson Prayer Lesson prayer: We praise God for a future life free from all the handicaps of this life where we may have perfect fellowship with God

Write: for these words are true and faithful.” This verse Is written to re-inforce the truth of the preceding one. For these ar 3 the words of God himself seated on the throne. Let it be noted that this new society does not mean merely an eternal existence but a quality of life which accounts for the newness. V. 6. “And he said unto them, It is done, I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.” Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet and represent God as the eternal one. Because he is eternal, his promises will be fullfilled. The fountain of the water of life is a figure of speech and represents salvation. Salvation is free today and forever; salvation is not to be make light of. V.7. “He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.” The victorious life is the overcoming life-overcoming self, sin, temptations, evil habits, enemies etc. It is written, ’We are more than conquerors through Christ who loved us.” Being God’s son is such a divine relationship that ail human relationship fade beside it. While it is a beautiful thought that we shall meet loved ones in heaven, greater and more beautiful is the thought that we shall be first of all a son of almighty God. V. 22. “For I saw no temple therein; for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. “No temple is needed for the whole city is a sanctuary. V. 23. “And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it; for the glory of God did lighten it, and the lamb is thei light thereof.” Here is another beautiful expression of the heavenly state. V. 24. “And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the or in it.” The people of all nations who are saved from the lowest to the highest, such as the kings, shall forever be devoted to God; note j the emphasis of walk; if we walk with him here we shall walk with him there. Vs. 25, 26. “And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day; for there shall be no night there. And they shall bring glory and honor of the nations to it. The heavenly city is secure at all times. The admission into the city is clear- i ly told in verse 27. While on earth i their name was written in the Lamb’s book of life. and the redeemed of the world forever walking with God in whatever he may ask us to do. We pray for such a heart yearning for all to enjoy this promised place of bliss that we will do our best to win them to our Lord, who is the way, the truth, and the life.” o I Wit I - and - J I Wisdom || o uni <oote One evening after a child had said its prayers, it asked its mother, “Why do you want me to pray? The mother answered, “We want you to pray so you’ll be good.” “But,” said the child, “Does papa pray?” the answer was, “No.” “Do you pray?” Again the answer was, “No.” Then the child said. “Don’t you and papa want to be good?” “O, yes,” was the reply. “Then dont you think, you and papa are expecting too much of a little fellow like me? Do you believe God wants me to do all the praying for this whole family? Seems to me you and papa might help me a little.”

J. Edgar Hoover says I am a church member: Because I am a religious being. Because the church was established by Christ. Because I would not live in a community without a church. Because of my influence. Because the church was my inspiration when young. Because I shall not live here always. Because a child has a highly de-
is worth. But this program makes life a financial matter and Success is measured by the dollar mark. In retrospect we count up the good in mankind, the moral virtues, the helpful influences, the cherished memories. Most of us are made tender as we think of some who have left us the past year and we feel poorer because they have gone. Then we take a new hold upon ourselves and with a grim determination we resolve to do better and be better for this may be our last year and we want to leave nothing but the sweetest memories behind us. It is a good custom to make New Year’s resolutions and then with a firm determination see to if that they come true.
Attendance at Protestant religious services in Austria has increased 50% during the past year. The present number of Protestants there is 342,436. Practically all Germans of today concentrate their hopes on the Marshall Plan for the reconstruction of Europe, and on the idea of a “United Nations of Europe,” it was stated in a report issued here by Hilfswerk, the relief and rei construction agency of the Evangelical Church in Germany. Describing the grim situation in Germany today, Hilfswerk’s report declared that “the general state of mind turns to the materialistic needs of bare existence, and spiritually to nihilism.” Ten thousand Russian Bibles have been presented by the American Bible society to Metropolitan Gregory of Leningrad and Novgorod, Russian churchman who is visiting America. In addition, Russian New Testaments and Psalm Books and Greek New Testaments have been given him. The gifts are designated as Christmas presents for the churches and people of Russia. o I* DO YOU KNOW? *1 Can you finish these verses —good to keep in mind this New Year? 1. “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; —” 2. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace—” 3. “The world passetb away and the lust thereof; —” 4. “Let us not be weary in well doin; —” 5. “Whatsoever ye do in word or deed—” ANSWERS TG “DO JfOU KNOW?” • « 1.
