General Meyers Is Released On Bail New York, Dec. 22 —(UP) — Maj. Gen. Bennett ®. Meyers, retired, was released on |2,000 bail today and ordered to appear In Washington on Jan. 7 when arraigned on three counts of perjury and subornation of perjury growing out of the recent senate investigation of his awarding wartime aviation contracts. Meyers, indicted by a Disthict of Columbia grand jury for alleged perjury in his testimony before the senate tvar investigating committee and for allegedly inducing Bleriot H. Lainarre of Dayton, O„ to give false testimony, was arraigned before a U. S. -commissioner in Brooklyn. o ILLINOIS REBUKED (Continued from Page 1) plea of guilty was entered at the trial.” The arresting officer served as an interpreter at the trial. Twenty-two years later Marino sought review of his case in a Winnebago county, 111., court. He lost. Under Illinois law, there was no appeal to other state courts. The supreme court said Illinois now “confesses error,” and consents to a reversal of the conviction. Marino’s case was returned to the county court for appropriate action. It was not clear whether a new trial would be granted or whether Marino will go free. To Review Case Washington, Dec. 22 —(UP) — The supreme court today agreed to decide whether U. S. Steel’s proposed purchase of Consolidated Steel Corp, for 18,000,000 violates the anti-trust laws.
