Yellow Jackets Defeat Bluffton, 37 To j|
Decatur Beats Bluffton Five Tuesday Night I The Decatur Yellow Jackets, in a game typical of their battles over the years with the Tigers, handed Bluffton a 37 to 31 defeat in a rugged tilt Tuesday night at the Jackets’ gym. While the Jackets were out in | front most of the ball game, it was! a rough and tumble affair, with the | Tigers threatening to pull the tilt i out of the fire in the closing stages | of the third quarter and the opening minutes of the final period. The victory also marked a Northeastern Indiana conference triumph for the Jackets, while the loss was Bluffton’s fourth in a row in as many starts this season. The lead see-sawed through most of the first quarter, but after the Jackets pulled into an 8-8 tie, they ■went on to pile up a five-point lead. 15-10 at the end of the period. Decatur at one time in the second quarter moved into a 21-12 lead but the Tigers whittled this to seven points at the half time intermission, 25-18. The Jackets' offense quit almost cold in the third quarter, Decatur scoring only one point while Bluffton connected for eight to move into a 26-26 tie, which Holmes broke for Decatur’s only fielder of the period to give Decatur a 28-26 margin as the final eight minutes of play opened. Roush's fielder from the side knotted the count at 28-28 but Lehman hit from underneath to put the Jackets ahead to stay. Decatur gradually pulled away from the Tigers, holding a five-point margin at 34-29 with three minutes to go, and keeping possession of the ball most of the rest of the ball game. Decatur’s scoring was exceptionally well divided, Lehman, Holmes and Ballard each scoring nine points for high. Karch was Bluffton’s most effective scorer with 11 points. The Jackets won the ball game at the free throw line, clicking for 13 foul tosses in 24 attempts. Bluffton’s foul shooting was woefully weak, the Tigers making only three of their chances, while missing 17. Bluffton blew all 13 of its free throw attempts in the first half. Twenty personals were called on each team. The Jackets face another tough battle Friday night, traveling to Berne to meet the Bears. Decatur FG FT TP Holmes, f 3 3 9 Ballard, f 17 9

SCATTERED across this nation are some of the cagiest automobile buyers the world ever saw. They cut their eyeteeth on a steering wheel, so to speak-they know car values from A to izzard — and you have to be plenty good to step ahead of your price class in the volume of your sales to them. That’s why it’s startling — sometimes even to us — to see the double-barreled story of public preference that’s written in the sales records and registration figures:

ITEM: Only three cars outsell Buick—and all of these are in the so-called “low-price field.” ITEM: In some localities - and quite often in polls that ask “Which car will you buy next?” — Buick ranks not fourth, but third, actually ahead of one of the lowest-priced three. Naturally, the smart buyer will ask “How come?” Well, the most standout style of the season, the style that’s the clearest forecast of wonderful

ft things to be, undoubtedly has ' much to do with it. But that isn’t all. The dollar is still a pretty important measuring stick. So we don’t think Buick could be where it is if it didn’t offer a bigger dollar’s worth - bigger in size and substance, in lift and life, in soft ride and easy handling, bigger in the all-round happiness you’ll get out of your buy. Which suggests, of course:
Why go against the solid judgment of your fellow men? Why not see your Buick j dealer now-with or with- | out a car to trade — and I place the order that will S put you where you belong, 1 right up in the four-front?
