Beer-Melchi The Cross Reformed church in Berne, was the scene of the wedding of Miss lona Beer, daughter of Mrs. Rose Beer of Berne, and Eugene N. Melchi. Jr., eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Melchi of this city. The double ring ceremony was performed at seven o’clock last evening by the Rev. C. A. Schmid. Two seven-branched candelabra lighted the altar, banked with palms and fernery and two huge baskets of white mums. Preceding the nuptial rite, Paul L. Baumgartner, pianist, and Mrs. Martin Neuenschwander, vocalist, presented a recital of traditional bridal selections. Lohrengrin's and Mendelssohn’s wedding marches were used. Given in marriage by her brother, Ralph Beer, the bride was lovely in a gown of white slipper satin. The bodice was made with a net yoke at the neckline to form a draped shoulder effect, enhanced with a wide bertha. The very full skirt ended in a long circular train. She wore a fingertip veil of illusion, fastened to a braided satin headband, and carried a bouquet of white roses and camellias. Miss Irene Beer attended her sister as maid-of-honor. wearing a gown of foam green satin, fashioned with a bertha collar, small puffed sleeves and a very full gathered skirt, accented in the back by a bustle. She wore matching mitts and head braid, and carried a colonial bouquet. The flower girl, little Miss Sherrill Ann Beer, niece of the bride, wore a gown of pink satin, styled identically to that of the maid of honor. She wore matching mitts and head braid and carried a small basket of mixed flowers. Manfred Melchi, of Angola, served his brother as best man, and Bill Lynch and Robert Baker ushered. Immediately following the ceremony, a reception for approximately one hundred and twenty five guests was held in the church social rooms. Pink and white tapers lighted the lace covered serving table, centered with a three tier wedding cake. For their wedding trip of unannounced destination, the new Mrs. Melchi changed to a wine colored gabardine suit with which she wore black accessories and a black topper. She completed her outfit with the white camellia corsage from her bridal bouquet. Upon their return, the young couple will reside in Muncie, where the groom is a senior student at Ball State Teachers college. The bride graduated from Berne high school and the Lutheran hospital school of nursing in Fort Wayne. She formerly was employed on the nursing staff at the Portland hospital.
