Grocery Will Close For Shamp Funeral Hite’s grocery store on Winchester street will be closed from 12 noon until 3 p.m. Saturday during funeral services for Mrs. Lydia Shamp, who died Wednesday night. o Rev. Russell Weller Residence Damaged Berne, Nov. 20 — The home of Rev. Russell Weller, in Kirkland township, was slightly damaged by fire Tuesday. Mr. Weller is a teacher in the Berne high school. He said he smelled smoke when he left home in the morning but could not find anything wrong. Later in the day his wife smelled smoke and the roof was on fire. It apparently started from a heating stove. She immediately notified neighbors and with the help of a garden hose they soon had the blaze under control. The damage was small. o Marooned Seamen Rescued Wednesday St. Anthony, Nfld., Nov. 20. — (UP) — Eight of the 41 rescued survivors of the wrecked British freighter Langleeerag were hospita-I lized today with frozen feet. Dr. John T. Van Nuys, dean of the medical school, said that “the addiitonal funds will stimulate investigative work not only at the Riley hospital but in other major divisions of the center." Van Nuys said that two research projects would be financed through the grant. Aged Geneva Woman Breaks Arm In Fall Berne, Nov. 20 Mrs. Walltice Schoonover, 96, of Geneva, suffered a fractured arm in a fall at her home. She was bending over to straighten out a rug when she lost her balance and fell. — 0 . Berne Native Badly Injured In Fall Berne, Nov. 20 — Willis R. Moser. of Woodburn, a native of this place and a son of the late Mrs. Jennie Moser, was badly hurt last week in a fall at the New Haven ordnance plant. He fell a distance of 22 feet from ladder and suffered three broken "vertebraes and a badly crushed left foot. He is a patient at the St. Joseph's hospital in Fort Wayne. o The Girl Scouts of Troop V met Tuesday evening after school at the fire station. Folks here were burned up over an artitle on Our Town I reprinted from a city paper. Made us sound like a bunch of “hicks” who whittled sticks and wore chin whiskers. (Last person I saw with chin whiskers was passing through on his way east.) So I ran an editorial on how we spoke of city “slickers”—as overdressed wiseacres, only interested in making money, and spending it in night clubs.
