Michigan Wins Over Badgers To Take Title Chicago, Nov. 17—(UP)—Michigan’s high-geared football teain, with the Big Nine crown clinched, prepared today for a breather against Ohio State Saturday in the regular season finals, but had its eyes on the Rose Bowl. The Fritz Crisier eleven clinched the conference crown and a Rose Bowl bid with a well-earned 40 to 6 triumph over Wisconsin. That victory was the fifth in the conference and the eighth of the season for Michigan, and Ohio State wasn't givgn any chance at all to upset the k new titleholders this weekend. The formality of offering the bid to the Rose Bowl to Michigan probably will take place early next week. Kenneth L. Wilson, commissioner of the western conference, will poll the member schools next Sunday, and their votes probably will be tabulated by Monday. There was no doubt that the Wolverines would be chosen unanimously. Last year, even though Illinois was the conference champion, Michigan received some votes for the Rose Bowl, but this year no other team was expected to get any recognition. Three other conference games will be on the Saturday slate which will close the 1947 grid season for the Big Nine. Minnesota will entertain Wisconsin, Purdue will travel to Indiana for the battle for the old oaken bucket, and Northwestern will move downstate to Illinois. All of the three are traditional scraps, and only Illinois ranked as a genuine favorite. Tulane comes to Notre Dame for another midwest headliner. Last weekend. lowa pulled the surprise of the day by upsetting Minnesota, 13 to 6, after coach Dr. Eddie Anderson turned in his resignation. Illinois tripped Ohio State, 28 to 7, and in non-confer-ence games, Indiana trampled Marquette, 48 to 6, Purdue bounced Pittsburgh, 28 to 0. and Northwestern bowed to Notre Dame. 26 to 19. The Wolverines completely outclassed Wisconsin. Scoring twice in the first period, Michigan paid no attention to the muddy field and the backs handled the ball with sure hands to run up a 20 to 6 edge at the half. In the final half Michigan romped to 2ft more points with ease and Wisconsin couldn’t get out of its own .tracks. lowa came from behind to trip Minnesota. The Gophers took a 7 to 0 lead but little Al Di Marco pitched , five successful passes to set up the tying touchdown in the first four minutes of the third period. Then he completed two DR. H. R.
