Two National Loop Arbiters To Work Game Two National league officials, Norris Ward, South Bend, and Jewell Young, Indianapolis, former Purdue great, have been assigned to officiate the exhibition game between the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons and the Sheboygan Redskins at the Yellow Jackets gym in this city next Tuesday night. Officials of the Decatur Lions club, sponsors of the annual exhibition game here, received this notification today. Carl Bennett, manager of the Pistons, in notifying the Lions that two league officials will be used here, stated that rivalry between the teams and the battle for positions being staged by rookies of both clubs, has grown to such an extent that it is believed advisable to have two league officials work these Exhibitions. The Pistons-Redskins game is scheduled to get underway at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. > The interesting preliminary tilt, between the Decatur American Legion team and Smitty’s Restaurant of Coldwater. Mich., will start at 7:30 o’clock. Tickets are priced at $1.25, each calling for a seat in a reserved section, and there are still a few tickets, at 75 cents, available for bleachers erected on the stage. All proceeds from the game are used by the Lions club to further the service club’s aid for the blind and other charitable activities. 0 Although from the earth’s surface every rainbow appears as an arc, each is a complete circle. Hoosier Net Season Will Open Saturday Indianapolis, Oct. 31 —-(UP) — A i new finish was being applied to basketball floors in hundreds of high school auditoriums, gymnasiums and fieldhouses throughout the state today in anticipation of the 1947-48 prep hardwood campaign, to be launched this weekend. most idolized sport, which annually draws hundreds of thousands of “faithfuls,” will get underway officially tomorrow, the day set aside by the Indiana high chool athletic association as the urtain-raiser. But it will be a slow start. While the state in general, northern Indiana in particular, is still wrapped up in the current gridiron campaign, the initial outburst of the amed "Hoosier madness” will be •primarily felt in central and southrn Indiana county schools. Most of these schools, comprising he majority of some 800 members of the JHSAA, are too small to I ompete with the bigger schools in 1 football. But in basketball, played n practically every Hoosier’s backard, they not only play the tougher outfits, they quite frequently pull some nifty upsets. Close to 50 schools will send their quintets on the floor Saturday night. Among them will be Shelburn, which surprised Vincennes in the regional last season and I Monroe, a sectional winner. ShelI burn will be at home to Midland, . while Monroe will open with Monmouth.
