25,000 Teachers Os I ( Slate In Convention : t _—_ j Parleys Opened In Five Indiana Cities Indianapolis, Oct. 23 —(UP)— ] Twenty - five thousand Hoosier 1 school masters and ma’ams met to- i day to discuss problems of their 1 profession while the sources of J many of the problems—the pupils ] —enjoyed a two-day holiday. I Mrs. Anita Oldham of Fort j Wayne, president of the state I teachers association, will call the 1 94th convention to order here to- I night. Some 15,000 teachers were 1 expected in Indianapolis and 10,000 I others will attend regional meet- j ings in Gary, Fort Wayne, South, I Bend, and Evansville. J Governor Gates will speak brief- I ly to the educators here. 4 Various inter-organizations and!' department teacher groups held 471 separate meetings today as the educators arrived for the first general session tonight. The annual sessions meant two days of vacation for Hoosier school children at the tag end of Indian summer, when classrooms began to seem a little confining anyway. ♦ Before the teachers go back home to resume their classroom work, they’ll hear prominent speakers at each of the five meetings. Politics will be an important part of the sessions as new officers will be elected all the way around at all five meetings. The association’s resolutions committee was preparing important subjects to be discussed and I acted on. Recent legislation, including the new teachers’ pay bill, will be discussed. Executive secretary Robert H. Wyatt of the association will make his annual report which he said Men, Women! Old at 40,50, 60!
