Open Ticket Sales For Pistons Game HejJ . ... • ——■■■ 1 . ~ r ’ ——-—-— __
Pistons Play Sheboygan Here On November 4 Tickets went on sale today for the annual appearance of the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons basketball team in Decatur. The Pistons, one of the strongest professional quintets in the ■country, will appear at the Yellow Jackets gymnasium in this city Tuesday night, November 4. The Sheboygen Redskins, like the Pistons members of the Na. tional Rasketball league, will op-| pose the Zollners in this exhibition tilt. This game, as the previous appearances of the Pistons, is sponsored by the Decatur Lions club. All proceeds of the tilt will be used by the Lions to further the service club's work with the Jjlind and other civic projects. Previous Pistons’ exhibitions here have drawn record crowds, and a packed house would seem assured this year with the Zollners meeting another National league club. This gjtme will be played only a few days before the official league opening, and with veterans of both clubs battling to retain their positions against several star college recruits, a great net display should be in store for the fans of Decatur and vicinity. Tickets are priced at $1.25, with no seats reserved. There will be a few tickets available for the bleachers placed on the stage, and these will be priced at 75 cents. These stage tickets will be on sale only at the Decatur public and Catholic

Oct. 16 — In compiling the most remarkable baseball record in the history of the Berne high school, the Berne Bears have just completed their baseball season undefeated and in 10 games scored the amazing total of 178 runs, or an average of 17.8 runs per game. At the same time they held their opponents to 21 runs, or an average of 2.1 runs per game. The Bears had 139 hits while their opponents connected for only 33. The Bears have lost only one game in the last three years, that one to Decatur, while winning about 40. What makes this fall’s record more amazing is the fact that Coach Red Shuck sent his regulars home as early as the second inning in some of the games. The pitching has been brilliant and the entire team hit well. The team is believed the best balanced that ever performed on the diamond here. Most of the boys are seniors and will graduate next spring.

Jackets Close ■ Home Season ; With Warsaw I I Decatur high school Yellow Jac-1 kets vs Warsaw high school grid-1 ders, Friday night at Worthman i field at 7:30 o’clock, will be the last home game of the season. Indications are that a record crowd will see Coach Bob Worthman’s 1947 football warriors finish their home stand against a heavier and tough Warsaw eleven. The Jackets have shown marked improvement each game and are fresh from a two-game winning streak. Warsaw also will be scrapping to stay in the win column, having defeated Bluffton last Friday night 14-13. Those who have seen both teams in action the last few weeks perdict a fast and close contest, with the team which gets the breaks being the probable winner. Coach Worthman scheduled the Jackets for their final workout late this afternoon and he reported that his players were in good physical condition for the contest. The local team is lighter and Worthman has been developing some speed plays for tomorrow night's encounter. It is generally believed that if the Decatur players can solve the Warsaw passing attack, they will be able to stack up win number three. Decatur hasn’t had much success with its passing game this season, using mostly line plays, but several new pass plays may by j tried out in Friday’s contest. The ticket sale will start at Worthman field at 7 o’clock Friday night, and those desiring seats are cautioned to be there early as all indications point to a record crowd for the closing contest. I Mixed Doubles Meet Here Friday Night A mixed doubles tournament will be held at the Mies Recreation alleys Friday night at 9 o’clock. The tourney will be based on scratch, with a 75 percent handicap. o Commodores To Play AO Home Games At DHS Official announcement was made today that all home games of the Decatur Commodores for the 194748 basketball season will be played at the Yellow Jackets gymnasium in this city. The Rev. Ignatius Vichuras, assistant pastor of St. Marys Catholic church, and director of the Decatur Catholic high school, authorized the announcement this morning, following a conference with public school officials. Rev.. Vichuras stated that the decision to play all home games in the Jackets’ gym was made as an accomodation to Commodores’ fans. The Jackets’ gym has far more seating capacity than the Commodores’ own gym, and every seat in the house affords an excellent view of the playing floor. The Commodores’ gym, built in 1925, has been outmoded and not only has insufficient seating capacity, but the seating arrangement is not suited to fans’ enjoyment of the games. The Commodores have played one or two games each season in previous years at the Jackets’ gym but this year determined to play all games there. Pre-season interest in the Commodores is reported at a high pitch, and with the organization of a Commodores Booster club this week, even greater interest is expected throughout the season. The Commies will have an all-veteran team this season, not having lost a member of last spring's sectional squad, and are being touted as one of the strongest quintets in the county. The Commodores will also be under the direction of a new coach this season. Dan Perry, for several years athletic director and head coach of the Decatur Yellow Jackets until his resignation
