A. of the Nuttman i Avenue United Brethren church ' met Tuesday evening at the home of the Rev. and Mrs. G. A. Eddy, with nineteen members u nd twelve guests present. The meeting opened with the hymn “The Old Rugged Cross," followed by the scripture reading by Mrs. David Zebr. Mrs. Norman VanGundy offered prayer. The Rev. Eddy introduced Mrs. Forrest Snyder, who spoke on the Laurel mission at Big Laurel, Ky. The meeting closed with prayer by Mrs. Snyder. Refreshments were later served by the hostess. The next meeting will he held at the home of Mrs. Archie Smitley. MRS. AMOS KETCHUM ENTERTAINS CLASS Mrs. Amos Ketchum was hostese Tuesday evening to the Dutiful Daughters class of the Bethany Evangelical United Brethren 1 church. Mrs. Homer Eley was the assisting hostess; Mrs. John Myers conducted the meeting in the absence of the president, Mrs. Gregg McFarland. Mrs. Reva Stauffer was in charge of the devotionals. Lovely refreshments were served at a later hour by the hostess and her assistant. B. P. W. ENJOYS DINNER AND THEATER PARTY Thirty members of the Decatur chapter of the Business and Profesional Women’s club motored to Fort Wayne Wednesday evening for a dinner and theater party. The English Terrace was the scene of the dinner. Members were seated at a long table decorated in keep ing with the Halloween season. Each members wag gifted with a mum corsage and a small sachet as favors. Following the dinner, the club divided into groups and attended the theater of their choice. ' Madge Barton was chairman of the meeting, assisted by Bessie Teeple, Velma Lake and Mary Alice Beineke. Announcement was .made that a special business meeting would be held on Wednesday evening, October 22. i REGULAR MEETING OF GUILD IS HELD The Women's guild of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church [ met in the social rooms of the | church last evening for its regul- ] ar meeting. Mrs. Albert Beineke was the I leader for the evening, and chose j as her subject “ Women and the j Peace," taken from the topic “Un- i derstanding and Appreciation of I !,Peoples of Other Nations.” Mrs. j ■,,L. A. Holthouee sang several negro j j spirituals. GAMMA NU SORORITY I IN MEETING MONDAY j The Gamma Nu sorority met * Monday night for its regular business meeting at the fire station. Plans were made for pledge initiation which will be Saturday, November 1, beginning with a dinner at seven o'clock. Reservations must be in by October 26 to Mrs. Lawrence Rash. A dance will follow initiation and will be open to the public. Tickets will go on sale in the near futpre. An informal gathering will be held at Bluffton on October 21, with the Bluffton i chapter in charge. Mrs. Frances | Portridge, supreme secretary, will, be the guest speaker. Mrs. William Ward and Mrs. "Reinhold Sauer were elected warden and press reporter, respectively. The next meeting will be held October 20. with Mrs. Arthur Poling, Mrs. Robert Ahr and Miss Lenora Fuelling as hostesses. The Hoagland Lutheran church will sponsor a home bake sale and rummage sale Saturday, beginning at ten o’clock, at the corner of Jefferson and Second streets. Pie and cake will be cold by the piece or whole, and the ladies will serve hot chicken sandwiches and coffee. — The Ladies Fireman's auxiliary will meet at seven thirty o’clock Monday evening at the home of I Mrs. Arthur Baker. The annual inspection of the Pythian Sister Temple will be held Monday night, October 13, at seven thirty o'clock. A pot-luck supper will precede inspection at six o’clock, and all members are asked to bring their own table service. The district deputy. Mrs. Bertha Teu, of Marion, will inspect the Temple. o Mrs. Vernon Fridley and her eixweeks old daughter. Joy, are visiting at the John Doan and Dave Heller homes. Mrs.. Willliam H. Bell is confined to her home with an arm infection following an attack of poison ivy. Mr. and Mrs. Van R. Grant, of Rensselaer, are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Heller. Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Confer, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., who have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ray Keller here, will leave Friday for Greencastle, where they will attend the DePauw University home-coming celebration Friday and Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Garad are observing their thirtieth wedding anniversary today. Mrs. Owen K. Baker was dismissed to her home this morning from the local hospital where she received treatment for injuries 1 sustained in an auto accident last week. I
