61 Sought To Ship Fraulein By Plane Girl Is Discovered In Box For Mailing Frankfurt, Germany, Oct. 2. — (UP) —American overseas airlines officials today opened a box that an American soldier left yesterday for shipment to New York and found in it a live, 21-year-old fraulein who had made herself uomfortable by taking off her •blouse. The girl is Doris Von Knobloch, a student who had worked at the U. S. army dispensary in nearby Darmstadt. Besides her, there •was in the box the blouse which she had taken off, a black dress and a five-ounce jar of tea. An American soldier whom the army asked the airlines not to identify brought in the box yesterday. He said he didn’t have the money to pay air freight charges and asked whether he could leave it overnight while he tried to get the extra money he needed. Apparently he had not heard there is a strike on American overseas airlines. The box was put in storage at the Hhein Mein airport for the night. It might be there unopened yet if a German employe during the night had not seen the lid of the box raised and a pair of eyes peer out. This morning, the German told William Waring of Long Beach, N. Y„ they had some suspicious freight. Waring investigated. “I opened the box and saw a pair of eyes and some hair,” he said. “Then she stepped out —(no shirt.)” The box had false screws in the lid and the girl could open or close it from the inside. It bad been earmarked for shipment in the belly compartment of

an airliner. Waring, who is AOA’s operations representative, said the belly compartments of the line’s planes were not heated, and she probably would have frozen to death if she actually had been shipped to New York. 0 Red Cross Monthly Report Announced Two more applications for return of the remains of war dead from Europe and the Pacific area were processed by Mrs. Ruth Hollingsworth, executive secretary of the Red Cross, during September, the monthly report reveals. The Red Cross extended financial aid of $170.65 during the month to servicemen, ex-servicemen and their dependents. This amount is l under the previous month’s total and Mrs. Hollingsworth stated that appeals for financial aid had declined the past few months. Services performed during the month totaled 350, the report shows. —o — Service Rendered Muncie. Ind. —(UP)—Firemen answered an alarm but found no smoke and no fire. GEORGE BLUM. 510 West Jefferson, General Electric employe: 1 always look for local stories on the front page first. I want to taow what people have been, [ hurt, etc. Sports are next for me. I don't read the locals too much, but I read the classified ads every night. I have only one major suggestion—leave out the liquor ads. R. B. KESSLER. Berne, employe of a Decatur club: I don’t take the Daily Democrat. I get my news
out of the Berne paper and two Fort Wayne papers, but aports are first for me. MRS. PAUL SHARP. 1135 Master Drive, a housewife: The front page ia»- first for me. Society is just another page as pages come. I read Blondie comic strip, but seldom look at Popeye. I enjoy the local news most and stopped the Willshire paper recently when 1 thought we could get it all in the Democrat. ARTHUR E. MYERS. Decatur, route two, oil distributor: I hit the front page headlines. 1 save the sports for last —it is my most enjoyable feature. I really read it all and have no preference. But I do take the paper for local news only. 1 get the others out of three Chicago papers. HAROLD E. WARTHMAN, barber and news agency operator: Os

course, I read them all, but in the Democrat I look at the headlines first. I read classifieds and both comics, but not always the sports. I look for local news in the paper. It suits me the way it is—a little of everything—but I like the local news, especially. ED BAUER. 210 South Tenth, salesman: I read the headlines on the front page first. I look for the deaths, but why wouldn't I? I am on the cemetery board. Then I go to sports and I am sort of like the Chinese. Then I start going backwards. It's local news for me first. I take one of the Fort Wayne papers. MRS. FRANK SCHMITZ, 213 South First St., a housewife: I glance at the front page first to see who died. Then I go to the locals. I don't have any boys or girls playing basketball anymore,
so I am not interested in sports. I never read the comics. 1 take the Democrat, a Fort Wayne paper and the Pathfinder. I read the continued story in the Democrat when I have nothing else to do. SEVERIN H. SCHURGER. 445 South First St. lawyer,: I might just as well be honest. It’s the comics first for me. Then its legal notices. I never read society. Oh I read the headlines on society. I'll take the local news in the Democrat. I read the other stuff in the other papers and hear it on the radio. 1 take a Fort Wayne paper and the Chicago Journal of Commerce, besides the Democrat. MRS. G. REMY BIERLY. 110 South Third St., a housewife: I have been doing: so much ironing and mending I really haven’t had
time for much reading—but in the] Democrat I read the locals first. Hospital news is next. I guess, and then I ffeid the wand ads. The mister searched all over the house the other night' for the Democrat. You won’t believe it, but he was looking for the continued story. We. get a Fort Wayne, Berne, Geneva and Corydon paper besides the Democrat. Corydon is my old home, you know. FRXNCIS w. HOWELL, 921 West Monroe, toolmaker at Fort Wayne G. E.: It’s the front page headlines for me. I do enjoy the international news and occasionally the comics. Mrs. Howell likes Dagwood and Blondie, but she hasn’t even heard of Popeye. She skips international news in your paper. She hears it all on the radio. I read the advertisements, too.
