Erase Strike Threat At Chicago Factory Maintenance Men Back At Harvester Chicago, Oct. 1. — (VP) —Maintenance workers at the Chicago tractor plant of the International Harvester company ended a "continuous two-day meeting” today, erasing a threat that the entire plant would be shut down. Company officials' reported that 400 crane operators and maintenance men resumed work. They said that 300 production workers who had been sent home yesterday had returned to their jobs. The employes are members of the CIO United Farm Equipment and Metal Workers. The production workers had been sent home because the company said it was impossible to keep them busy unless the crane operators moved materials. The plant employs 7,500 workers. The company had said it would be necessary to Increase the lay-offs daily unless the maintenance workers went back to their johs. The work stoppage ended one day after 2,800 workers at the firm's West Pullman plant returned to work. Local union leaders had asked the men to go back to work. Negotiations have been in progress at the plants on union demands for wage increases. 0 Mettler Funeral On Thursday Afternoon Funeral services for Mrs. David Mettler, who died Tuesday morning at her home in Berne, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Cross Evangelical and Reformed church in Berne, with the Rev.
