FACTS ABOUT YOUR CITY PLANT The Light and Water Department!! are municipally owned. They belong to the citizens who benefit from low utility raten and reduced city taxes through efficient operation of the plant, waiving at ordinary municipal charges and cash donations to the civil city. From an original investment of $15,000, the value of electric and waler departments, io nearly $2,000,000. It would cost doubly the amount to replace equipment, mains, lines and buildings. • The proposed electric department expansion will increase capacity from 8,000 KWH to 18,000 KWH, assuring Decatur of reserve for future. ■ ■ ' " ■ • •' The water department with 2,025 customer meters, plans SIO,OOO improvement for treatment plant. Water mains, ranging in size from 2 inches to 16 inches in diameter, cover a length of 23.44 miles. During the first 6 months of 1947, 92,000,000 gallons of water were pumped. • The water department waives charge of $9,550.00 for fire hydrant rentals and in addition donated $2,700 to civil eily for reduction of taxes. .More electrical energy is produced in our City Light Plant than in any city of equal size in the United Stales. We have the 4th largest output of any municipal light plant in the State of Indiana. In addition to 4,037 city and rural meter customers, the city maintains free of charge (no tax levy) 1,100 street lights, of which 900 are ornamental pests. - f Our city levies only 78 cents on each SIOO of taxables. If ornamental street lighting costs of $35 per post and fire hydrant rentals of $9,500, were charged to civil city and cash donations of $15,000 from electric and $2,700 from water departments were eliminated, Decatur's civil city tax would be boosted to $1.66 on each SIOO. ■■■- Among our heaviest power users are: Central Soya Company; General Kleetric Company; The Deeatur Casting Co.; Krick-Tindall Co.; The Sehafer Co.; Kraft Foods Co.; Decatur Industries; Wayne Novelty Co.; The Town of Monroe. - 1 " 1
