Johnson, former treasurer of the exclusive Olympia Country Club, wa* charged today with using the mail* in a scheme to defraud personal friend* of 1100,000. Johnson, distinguished looking man-about-town who maintained a gold coast apartment and entertained lavishly, disappeared Sept. 14. 1948. An Indictment returned in federal court charged that he swindled two friend* out of 1100.000. but U. S. district attorney Otto Kerner. Jr., said he believed other victim* were involved, and that the total eventually would mount to 0300,000. Johnson, who wa* the country club'* next scheduled president, left owing the club 01.000. Kerner *aid He said the alleged frauds started In 1941 when Johnson told friends he wa* collecting h «d debt* for large department store*.
