I | ;on>s.s.£ar£fl Creamed Comments on the Sunday School Lesson, Wisdom is the principal thing. Proverbs 1:1-5; 3:13-18; 9:9, 10; James 1:5, for July 27. The fact that Solomon asked God for wisdom Is made evident by the many proverbs attributed to him. It is a great art, and a real test of wisdom to say much in a few words. V.l. "The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel." The idea of speaking proverbs was so well done by Solomon that others also wrote proverbs. It may be some were known as Solomon's proverbs written by others, since Solomon’s proverbs were almost identical. 2. "To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding." The term ‘‘instruction’’ represents wisdom on its practical side and carries with it the idea to correct or to chastise and therefore meara moral training Wisdom is religious knowledge which leads to an appreciation of what God is, what he requires of us and what we owe to him. V. 3. "To receive the Inst tuition of wisdom, justice, and judgement and equity." "Justice” stands for tig- thing Pself-that which io just; ’’judgement" in respect to right reason, which says it is just; "equity” in respect to its being agreeabie to the law of God. V. 4 "To give subttlty to the simple. to the yonug man knowlege and discretion.” It is the part of wisdom not to let the youth get the knowledge of ein by experience. To give a keen sense of discernment between evil and good is wisdom. V. 5. "A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsel." In the process of gaining wisdom there la a whetting of the appetite for knowledge. ’ Thq one who does not care to know will aaoner or later walk In darkness. « V. 13. "Happy Is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding." The satisfaction of understanding and wisdom ie so profound as to produce a state of happiness. V. 14. silver and the gain thereof than fine gold." Wisdom and understanding are worth more than money. It Is not what you have but what you are that counts. V. 15. "She la more precious than rubies and all the things that thou canst desire are not to be compar ed With her." Wisdom gives heart satisfaction, moral character and an endless life. Wisduin sad the soul of man are one spiritually; as the soul never lies so wisdom will continue. The stages of life here and in eternity are determined by the attainment of wisdom In its high est sense. V. 16 “Length of days Is In her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honor." God has so ordered his moral universe that correct. godly living undoubtedly contributes to increased length of life. Material prosperity, also, Is promoted by clean living and reliability. V. 17. "Her ways are ways of pleasantness and all her paths are peace. Wisdom's paths are free from strife alarm, and they lead to peace. Wisdom brings tranquility, serenity, and blessedness without which there can be no peace.
V.lB, "She Is a tree of life to them that lay hold on her; and happy Is every one that retaineth her.” True wisdom Is a source of life in all Its fullness and richness to those who acquire it. V. 9. “Give Instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser; teach a just man, and he will Increase In learning.” There is no limit to true wisdom. Those possessing true wisdom make the best use of all occasioSs of learning duties and In learning the will of God. A child of God sings, "More about Jesus would I know, etc.” V.lO. "The fear of the Lotd Is the beginning of wisdom; and the knowledge of the holy Is understanding." The fear of the Lord has to do with extreme caution that God ue uut displeased. The knowledge of the "holy one” comes through fellowship with God. it is this knowledge which Is of preeminent worth. V. 5. “If any man lack wisdom, let him ask of God. that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." The highest expression of wisdom is in doing every thing to the glory of God. When this Is one’s goal then one may ask with onfidence knowing that dlvfng guidance and power will be given to attain this objective.

| mi U.L.WM Giving Insures Happiness We have l»ecom<* accustomed to government dole, ‘hat a host of civilians are Inclined to depend upon others for their living. When It isn’t forthcoming or seems to be given reluctantly they become disgruntled. A middle-aged man who had suffered many disappointments during his lifetime, but who maintained a cheerful, eunny disposition through it all became suddenly wealthy at the death of a relative "What are you going to do with your money, now '.hat you have so much?" asked an intimate friend. "WeH, for one thing," came the unexpected reply, "I mean to do more for tho world than it ever did for me." Does any one doubt that he had the secret of happiness? Most of us forget, or perhaps never realized, that to be truly happy one must be continually giving. He who makes it a practice to do more for the world than it did for him, will uever want to leave this world.
